Don't forget, the Ears of the Brake Pads should be slightly lube'd  where it slides on the Calliper bracket.

This allows the Pads to move as they wear. A tiny smear of Copper slip would suffice, on the bracket & pad Ears.

I've painted the rear drums on my monte over the weekend. Very pleased with the results. Followed the advice above but used smooth Black, I'm not a fan of the red on drums that are so small look a bit Halfords IMHO. If I was doing the calipers I would do them red. What is the procedure for doing them, can you paint them in situ?

used this paint I have at £5 its tough stuff and quick drying

I have a slight off topic question.....monte carlos in the uk are sold with drums?

In greece all the tsi range is euiped with disks all 4 corners...

Tried a couple of times with the DIY spray can approach but the rust would still break through. Got a local body shop to do them properly for £20 a corner in the end.

Did they take them off to do them? I was quoted £20 a corner but only if I took them off, that's having them powder coated.

Think mine were done in two pack and yes removed the drums myself putting the car on axle stands for a day.

Yes, UK Monte Carlo's all come with rear drums.  A cost cutting exercise I would guess?
