I'll order some, but unfortunately there is nothing legally that says they have to honour the order.

No company has to sell you anything, even if mis-priced on the high street they can still refuse the sale, and protection is even greater with websites as they can actually correct the price and charge you after delivery for their mistake.

False advertising is when you are deliberately mislead (I.e "Sir this is only £10", then they charge £100) so the only way to get away with it is if the company decides to honour it out of goodwill!

Also as no money is taken I very much doubt they'll honour it...

+1, there was a big brouhaha a while back IIRC with Tesco or Argos where web prices were wrong. They weren't legally obliged to honor the web price.

something that should be £350 for £300, you have a good chance they'll play ball, but the same thing advertised for £3.50 is an obvious error and they are entitled not to honour it

Yup, shops have the right not to sell.

 

You'll probably get an email telling you this, they might offer a discount to keep your business.

 

It'd have to be a bloody big one before I'd let Halfords near my wheels.

Must admit, I don't think I'll get the tyres... but if I do!

Had a similar situation when I bought some sofas from homebase last year. They were advertising a nice leather corner sofa on their website for £250. Thought it was too good to be true so took a trip down to my local store to make enquiries. Nice lady checked on the computer and it was showing the price to be £250. It was also a 15% off everything weekend and she recommended that if we wanted it we should buy it there and then as it would probably be popular. So we did, along with a matching 3 seater. 2 brand new leather sofas for £360 delivered, result

 

Couple of days later, my bird gets a call from homebase to say that it was a misprice and the order was to be cancelled due to the online terms and conditions stating that the point of contract is upon dispatch. All well and good and indeed correct if we had bought online. Bad news for them was I had paid cash instore and my money was in their till. That, by consumer law, was the point of contract so we got our sofas for the price we paid. Yay.

 

Any price displayed is what is known as an "Invitation to treat" which means the shop is suggesting that they want so much for the product. As a consumer you can, by law, accept and pay the displayed price or you could make them an offer. It is then up to the shop whether they want to accept your offer or not. Once they accept your money into the till a contract has been entered between the shop and the customer.

 

It is a common misconception that a shop has to sell you a product at the price displayed. It's just generally best practice to honour small mistakes as it keeps the customers happy but equally if it is a blatently massive mistake it's better for them to say sorry but it's actually this price.
