Downpipe fitted :)

Featured Replies

Well got around to fitting my bigger downpipe/ d-cat pipe on fri. No management lights on so far and have been driving it all week end :) also dont no if its just coincidence bit my mpg computer usually shows around 35/36mpg. All week end its been 37/39mpg... But i also fitted a new turbo to pancake pipe hose. So this mite be the reason for the mpg

Some difference in size compared to standard downpipe

As you can see in the first pic the flexi wos starting to go on my standard pipe. That wos the reason i changed to a bigger down pipe. I will weld in a new flexi in the standard pipe so i can seap them over come m.o.t time

If your old pancake pipe was leaking boost then that would affect mpg. But that said the new dp will have helped a bit as well

Did you fit a sports cat as well?

It is a decat pipe pipe i fitted aswell as downpipe. I have access to a ramp so when m.o.t time comes ill just put the cat back in its an easy job.

Is that one of the tuningpartsbay jobbies ?

are these ebay £120 special downpipe and decat any good?

  • Author

Yeah its 1 of the cheap ebay jobbies. Lol. I think there a good job. I fitted 1 to my bro's tuned 1.8t golf over a year afo and have never had any problems with it. And they fit good. Only thing is u mite have to bend heatsheld up abit to stop it vibrating. But easy to do

you notice any more power

Not really to be honest. Car is standard otherwise. But im sure i will notice when its remapped

So are you prepping to go straight to stage 2?

  • Author

Not really. Its my family car id be happy with stage 1. But you never no ;)

same one i have had in my garage for nearly a year! lol

nice to see it fits :)

Is the management light on?  Mated to an existing standard exhaust ok?

  • Author

Management light hasnt came on. Also it fitted straight on to my standard exhaust system

Though you might have got a few extra bhp out of it especially with the cat removed. No difference at all?

  • Author

There is a differance it revs abit more freely and pulls abit more. But not a really noticeable.

should also be a little bit more economical without the cat

Hows it going, still no engine light?

What are you planning to do come MOT time?

Any more noise due to no cat?

hi i got mine fitted and now and then over boosts as it needs a map so stage 2 here i come

going well. Still no light. Has abit of a noise of it when coming on boost. Sounds like an induction kit abit. But all and all im happy with it. Mot is not due till next year so ill just swap it over to the original cat. An easy job to do

I'm a bit confused, (nice looking bit of kit BYT) you have two lambda's on the old system, the fwd one for the ecu, the aft I thought for cat condition........so looking at that image of the old pipe, the cat condition lambda (if that is what it is) seems to be infront of the cat??? or am I being a turnip?

my engine light is on now lol

there is 2 lambda's on the original pipe you are right. 1 before and 1 after the cat. On the new downpipe both lambda's also go on. Just no cat between them now

Exact same one as I have fitted.

I notice the sound a lot from behind the car if someone else is driving it, nice and subtle though.

Biggest driving characteristics I noticed was a little more low end torque. (The car would go up hills easier in the high gears than before without struggling).
