Thanks silver. My point exactly. Not once on sat or today on the phone, did they mention the cracked led and or possible safety defect. Again, negligence on there part. During my heated discussion with the sales manager, I mentioned the poor after sales. I was told on sat that they would call me today to sort out the mirror. I had to chase them up. The manager was adamant at 4.45pm that someone wud have rang me. Yeah right. That's how it all started. Ended with him saying, if you don't like it, go else where. Great after sales. Regardless, of our disagreement on the phone. What happened to customer satisfaction and good after sales. That's really going to make me want to.take my car there. All changed after i had paid the deposit. Should have hone with my gut instinct. I'll take your advice silver, and call the customer services after my mirror has been fixed. Or before??

In that case I would have thought they should have been prepared to return c.£300 leaving them £200 to cover their wasted time.

Not sure why you should need a cooling off period, you decided you wanted it and agreed the deal.

How would you feel three days after ordering the car the garage phoned you and said we've thought about it and we are not selling you the car!!

By law, I thought there was always a cooling off period. Statutory rights.

I just expected more from a main dealer. That's all.

They are replacing the LED and touching up the wheel FOC. Am I missing something here? You had an issue, they sorted it. If the wheel isn't perfect, you can get it refinished for £50.

I don't see what the problem is here. If you want perfect condition, buy brand new. Cars pick up knocks occasionally.

There is no cooling off period if the item is purchased on business premises.

You have bought a second hand car that has 2 very minor issues. If you wanted immaculate then buy new.

You get a cooling off period if you had paid the deposit over the phone. Distance selling regulations.

I think the fact that the dealer is rectifying the faults free of charge is a reasonable response. I think you are the one being unreasonable.Just let it go and enjoy the car lifes too short to let something like this stress U out.

How the dealer has reacted to these minor issues is bad but you have a car with minor issues that sadly you should have picked up on the inspection & then they would of repaired it as part of the sale(i agree dealers should rectify all issues minor or not before the car goes on sale but sadly they dont),the dealer is replacing the led cover & you can get the wheel refurbished for £50 if its that bad & the touch up doesnt work & the car will be like new,id just enjoy your new car & use another dealer for servicing & any warranty repairs.Life is to short fella to get all wound up over this.Welcome to the forum & enjoy your new car,they are very good!

Normal reply to things like this is that "Car is priced accordingly".

 

Lots of people don't bother to check cars when they buy, and it looks like plenty don't bother when they sell either.

 

Neither of these things are very expensive to fix but you might want to take your servicing business elsewhere and make that clear the the salesman's boss.

What does the contract you signed when you agreed to buy the car say about your rights, cancellation, return of deposit, cooling off period and warranty?

Still doesnt excuse the way they have delt with the op,they were happy to take his money & sell him a car yet when he points out 2 minor issues they get awkward then agree to fix them which they should of originaly done,we dont know how the op went into the dealer,it may have been all guns blazing & shouting or he may have been polite about it.

Where would you draw the line, as you seem to want all cars restoring to factory condition.

This is a difficult one. My Blackline was quite a late car and that is now 6 months old. By rights mine should have the odd dink here and there but because im very fussy to date it only has a couple of stone chips here and there.

People have varying degrees or anal-ness about their cars, I hate kerbed wheels, door dings....stone chips even upset me a little and I hit a pothole the other day (lets face it thats a daily occurance practically on UK roads) no damage to tyres or wheel but ever so slight change in wheel allignment....and im still reeling about that now. My normal side says im pathetic to worry, its just a bloody car and theres more to life....my OCD side just cant cope!

Im fastidious about my cars and anyone buying a car ive owned is in for a good deal as i look after my motors, try not to kerb wheels or get it knocked unnecessarily and am generally mechanically sensitive towards it, im even funny about keeping OEM tyres on them. However lots of people arent like me. That Blackline isnt very old and only so much can happen to a car in the space of a few months but a cracked indicator LED and kerbed wheel is not unlikely and fairly trivial really.

Where I am a bit miffed is that your dealer despite whether you missed these bits or not needs to accept the fact youve spent alot of money with them and they should be willing to do all they can within reason to keep you happy as repeat custom is a big part of any dealerships business.

Replacing the LED is great but id also insist that they have the wheel professionally smart repaired at very least..sounds to me like they are just going to do a touch-up job.

I think its valid to get what you want, a decent repair isnt a big ask...a new wheel would be. Its all about compromise but it seems to me like the dealer has been compromising more to suit themselves than you which isnt quite on in my book.

Not restoring,id expect a 2012 car from a dealer to be as good as new,i bought mine when it was 2 years old & it was in perfect condition,i viewed a slightly older one & that had a different make of tyre on each wheel,lots of dents & scratches & damage to the wheels,you get what you pay for & i work hard for my money so would expect a year old car to be as new,you expect a few issues with older cars,silly thing with this case is if the dealer had the alloy refurbished & replaced the cracked led cover(at very little cost to them) before sale the op may of been on here saying how happy he is with his new car.

a 2012 could be 18months old now and even at average mileage itll be around 20000, cars get knocked about and a curbed wheel on a 2012 is hardly unexpected.

 

yes, a dealer that cared would rectify the issues as it wouldnt cost them much however i do feel the buyer is being excessively picky.

i think youve hit the nail there,

 

its a shame but a used car is a used car, it wont be perfect but thats why you buy brand new

Thanks for your understanding. When I picked up the car, it was dirty inside even though it had been valited. The acting manager went about cleaning the car inside. As he was cleaning the car, he asked me to check around and see if I was happy. I then spotted the led cracked on the wing mirror, and the wheel. I couldn't remember them being like that when I viewed it to be honest. I said I didn't want to take the car with a defective led that could leak in water. He argued that it was already there and had the paper work to prove it. I replied, is that supposed to make me feel better that you already knew. After a bit of a debate, he decided they would fix the led on goodwill. The salesman I was dealing with, came outside and said he hasn't noticed it the other day. Odd if there was paperwork showing the defect. I rushed to the garage after a hard days work, excited about my new car. I find it dirty and with a cracked led and scuffed wheel. Wouldn't anyone be a tad ****ed??

If I'd spent a few grand that's different. The car is only 10 months old and cost me a lot of money. Surely, a car of this age, regardless of the fact its used, should be sold without a cracked led and scuffed wheel. Its a main dealer for Gods sake. Like pips said, what's an led and painted wheel to them? Especially with what I've paid.

My mate bought a BMW msport. His wife scuffed a wheel badly a week after picking up the car. He took it back and they repainted it. That's after sales!

Thanks Mikey. You'd think they would want to keep me happy so I service my car there. They obviously don't give a toss whether I do or don't. I don't think I'm being anal. The car is only 10 months old. The salesman is a disgrace in my eyes. He obviously knew about the defects but played ignorant to them when showing me around. Even though I knew him from years back. Its quite worrying that a sales manager is advising his team to pretend the defects aren't there to save a bit of money. How good would they look in your eyes in they did the honourable thing?

It gets worse. My missus has noticed one of the rear bumper reflectors is slightly cracked. Unbelievable! Are these easy to replace? I can't believe I've missed all these things.

Think they can be, they are just glued in but no telling what damage could be done to the paintwork getting the old one out.

Glued in. That doesn't sound good. I thought they would be clipped in. Ill have to speak to the dealer again tomoro and see if they'll do anything.

No worries Im sure ive heard that you can get the reflector as a part and that to get the old one out a hair dryer a suitable tool and patience does the job bur not sure id want to do it myself.
