Sounds like you have found why the car was for sale after only 10 months!

I have also picked up 2nd hand cars that had defects present that weren't when the car was bought, no doubt some sales people think once a car is sold it is carte blanche to use it how they fancy.

On the plus side it does sound as if the dealership is trying to rectify faults rather than telling you to do one, which some would if you have already lost your rag. I have to say that the attitude on here from some people is a little off, if you are dropping £xxk on a 10 month old car you have every right to expect that it will be pretty much pristine unless it is sold under value due to excessive mileage etc.

Good luck

Thanks cyclistpat. Its nice to have some support. Its also the little things. Again, I had to phone them 5 hours after I dropped the car off. They told me I'd have it back after aprox 2 hours. I've never had a courtesy call and have always had to chase them up. That was until I paid the deposit of course.

I mentioned the wire soldering which has been talked about on here many times. You don't want to believe everything you here on those forums, was my response. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the solution.

To be honest, I bought my vRS brand new with the proceeds of being made voluntarily redundant, first time I've spent more than £8k on a car and probably never buy new again. It developed a couple of minor issues over the first few thousand miles, all of which were dealt with by the supplying dealer (DMK Leeds), courteously and in a timely manner.

The original salesman (Gareth) was great when giving me the keys and still says hi and has a chat if I pop in for a service or tyres etc.

I understand you've not had the best experience, but I have to ask - as the warranty is nationwide, why, when you weren't happy with your supplying dealer to start with have you not voted with your feet and found another?

Good dealerships are hard to find, mine (thankfully) have been nothing but brilliant! Thanks DMK Leeds!

Hope you find a good one and get your issues sorted, they are (usually) great cars!

After the airbag debacle which is still going on, I may have to look elsewhere. 3 days trying to sort one problem out and now I have to leave it for another 2 to 3 days. I'm wondering whether its possible to use any of the VW or audi group for warranty purposes?? The nearest other Skoda dealer is in Cambridge, about 40 mins away.

Im glad you've had a good experience. I've only had my car less than a month and its spent nearly a week in the local Skoda dealer.

First off, regarding Wings. I had a great experience with them in 2006. They fitted roofbars to my then 18 month old Fabia estate. I picked the car up and it was pitch black outside where the car was. When I got it home and into the garage, I could see that not only had they cut the bars to make them fit properly, but they also scratched my car. Where they cut the bars there was a gap in the run between the bar and the actual car which after spending the day on the car park at work, whilst pouring down with rain, water had got into the roof lining and was very wet indeed.

When I went back to wings they were all apologetic and said they would get it sorted within 24 hours. When I went to pick the car up, not only was the scratch still there below the bar where it had been cut, but the roof lining was still wet.

I was accused back then by Wings of being slightly fussy and they could not understand why a simple polish wasn't good enough to get the scratch out??? I insisted that the roofline be resprayed due to their incompetence,

I thought they had got better.

regarding the cracked light, yes maybe you should have spotted it, but Wings should have noticed it first and either rectified it OR made you aware on the paperwork. By the way, can't a cracked light mean an mot failure?

Good luck.

That's why they fixed it. What I found really odd yesterday was the fact they are using another car for testing and swapping parts. Is that normal? I wouldn't want to be the one buying the other car.

I spotted the paperwork when picking up the car. It was in a folder on the desk next to my cars paperwork. It had all the defects noted down, including the ones I'd missed. None of them were pointed out by the salesman or manager. The salesman said he hadnt seen them and the manager admitted to taking in the car himself and was fully aware of them. I am aware I should have spotted certain things, but regardless, its still negligence for a main dealer.

Surely, this must have happened before on another Octavia.

It may well have happened on another car but the dealer probably kept the knowledge to them selves. Its only once things go wrong a number of times will it start to get logged centrally. Cars are much more complicated now, while there are lots of good aids to try and help diagnose problems there are still many that are a sod to fix.

As for using another car IMO its a sensible thing to do. you know the other car works so use the parts to try and find the duff one in that. The alternative is having to order each part one at a time to see if it works. 1 day of part swapping could be 2+ week of ordering parts etc. Obviously once they found the problem i would expect they will order the part new to replace yours but as a diagnosis system its fairly sensible.

I understand the theory of changing parts etc. I just hope I get new parts in mine. I'm just surprised that this problem has caused such a headache, considering its a common fault according to this forum site.

Anyways, I'm taking my son to Anfield for his first Liverpool match tomorrow. Looking forward to giving the car a good run in. 3 hours! Let's hope I don't need that airbag.

3 days gone and the car is still at the garage getting fixed. Everything has been changed that can be changed, including the wiring. Customer services manager has been taking the car home to test it to and from work (30 miles each way). At least he asked my permission. Ironically, they've done more miles in the car than I have.

That's 5 days the car has been in for the airbag fault.

I'm loving my new skoda experience.

It might be worth you contacting the previous owner & asking why they got rid so soon.......if it was me i think id be asking if you can exchange the car for another if they cant fix the fault.

That's what I was thinking. You haven't met the staff at wings. Bob hope I think. Plus, they haven't really got anything else I want, and I don't really want to pay more for another car. Has anybody been in such a situation where they exchanged?

Got my car back from wings. Replaced the wiring, airbag, etc etc. Fingers crossed it will now be okay. On Skoda UK's request, I received a full tank of fuel and will receive a free service for my troubles. Have to say, the customer relations manager at skoda UK was a pleasure to deal with. Constantly checking with me and with wings on the progress of my car. The cs manager at wings was much easier to deal with than the sales staff.
