OMG - how many times have we told you in the past not to risk buying a non-OEM satnav unit?

Another £100 probably would have got you a proper Columbus/MFD3

This looks more MDF :(

I have a 510 brim, but the dvd drive has gone, and thats why I could not update my new maps when they appeared by magic through the post, and it does not have BT, can only play restricted formats in music and films, does not have speedcams with warnings, to replace the dvd drive is around £150 and about another £150 for BT

The OEM setup uses the central pin of the aerial lead to provide power to the inbuilt aerial amplifier. If the new head unit has not got the power going into the aerial lead, then this amp isn't going to work. The blue lead is the power input to the new in-line amp that is provided in the kit, and this will need to be connected to the 12 volt ignition switched live to provide the aerial amplifier with the power.

With this setup, the inbuilt amp can't work, that's why there is a separate in-line amp provided. All you're doing is using the new amp provided rather than the one already in the car, and the blue lead is what is needed to provide the power to get it working to provide the RDS etc.

Thanks for the explanation Mike, is there a switched live behind the unit to tap into??

For a tenner less I picked up an RNS315 (Amundsen+). Nav, DAB, BT and the GPS receiver.
