National Meet - Offer of detailing demos/repairs

Featured Replies

This is only a pipedream at the moment, but after a long chat with "God" on the phone, it is possible I could be doing little demos of detailing techniques and the like at the National meet.

This will only occur if the weather is looking semi-decent though - cloud is fine, just no rain.  If its raining, I'll probably just have a few typical items on display which are useful, rather than put them to use.

Now, my own car can't really be demo'd on, so what I am looking for are cars which perhaps have areas of poor paint, be it swirls, a bit of scuffing, perhaps some light scratching (the sort that looks obvious to the naked eye, but isn't that deep when looked at)

Any "work" I do will be undertaken at the owner's risk, but I will take every step to ensure all proper precautions are taken.  This can also include headlight de-clouding too.

If vaguely interested, drop me a PM, preferably with good photos / descriptions of areas of particular note.

Hi Jason,

You can use my car for a demo :) I have faith in your skills

Good idea

Shame there isn't a 'Show and Shine' Competition too

Any areas of concern?  It won't be a full valet though!  Aimed at specific defective areas really.

ColinD's post here indicates there is something like that going on

Bonnet and roof. Scuff on the bumper too

Shall see what I can do.  It all still depends on sunday's weather forecast yet,

Bonnet was actually looking ok just now apart from the millions of stone chips.

Here's a pic of the bumper and roof

I think both of those will just polish out, but the actual fine scratch might benefit from a light sanding to be sure.

The pain with the front bumper is its plastic so the paint depth gauge doesn't work.  You just have to see what the bonnet has, and use that as a guide as to what is on the bumper.

Jason, I know its not a Skoda, but I am quiet happy for you to guinea pig using my trusty old Audi. It has everything from scratches to swirls all over, plus dodgy plastic headlights. You can demo your various techniques on all panels, and no I don't expect a full valet either.

Sounds like I'd be leaving clean patches all over it though.  What I would be keen to do is to tape off poor areas and polish/tart up a square.  Trouble is then, you have a shiny square....

It wouldn't stay shiny for long, living on a farm track with hedges down the sides has its drawbacks. Have a look on Sunday and see what you think.

You could be onto something there Jason.  We've had the Rat look, how about pioneering the chess board look? :)

Are you any good with rusty Fords?

Some things can only be fixed with fire :D

^ This sounds really interesting & will be useful to pick up good tips/techniques

The winter/spring hasn't been kind on the truck so will be coming up as works in progress & looking out for bodywork/paint advice (essential if you own a Felly!) ;)

When are you thinking of doing this jase? as i am thinking of getting a machine polisher and having a go at this myself :)

Hmmm, "rust" is a tough one.  I could lower myself to work on a ford. ;)
