Sounds very sensible to me if you can live with the living space.

 

Low weight means less wear and tear on the rough roads and also easier for a few people to lift the car out if it gets stuck.

Love that first picture. Now that's classic Skoda rally style.

Only a colonist could be critical of small perfection, I think they will have a really good chance of completing the task at hand.
