Boost leak?

Featured Replies

So I've had my 150 turbo put on today apart from this noise, it was there with the 130 turbo but not quite as loud, it sounds to me like a boost leak but I'm no expert lol. Weird how when you've let off the accelerator it sounds like it's dumping the air a bit like a dump valve.

Mines doing that but mines worse, sounds like a rally car waste gate! Gunna take the turbo off and have a look over it again as it never used to do it but its gotten very loud over the last few week,I've done a boost leak check and its all ok,must be turbo:-(

i get this whooshing sound on acceleration, my mileage is 135k, hope its not the turbo or something expensive.

Congrats on finally capturing the audio..I've never had the chance!

I used to have this sound and finally muted it to a lower level simply by totally replacing myl bottom hose from the intercooler.

Now when I go through the gears I just get noisy diesel and no whoosh at also the car pulls noticeably better.

Failing this it will most likely be the hose from the turbo.

The noise is air escaping around the rubber seal on the badly designed quick release couplers.

thanks dude, I did think it was a boost leak as there is quite a lot more black smoke than usual as well

I have this exact same noise however no black smoke.. Still pulls well though...

I'm getting the really loud wastegate noise too, stripped all the pipes and turbo off, changed all seals and did a pressure test, all is well but still the loud noises?

i have re-newed the bottom intercooler pipe 90 degree as it kept blowing off due to the bits that the couplings attach too, i have given all the pipework a clean out aswell, but i am still getting oil from the egr valve, might consider cleaning egr valve as still gunk inside it.

Hi tommccabevrs

Are you still having issues? Had a pd150/170 hybrid fitted and got a horrific whine. But upper boost pipe and whole lower section including metal 90 degree pipe into the intercooler. I can't see any boost leaks and logs are apparently ok.

Can't quite hear If your issue is the same as mine as the audio clip is shorter. If you have made any progress did you find out what was wrong?

You can hear my sound clip here...

Thanks

mine sounded like yours when I first put it on, I thought it was the Dreaded 'police siren' noise everyone goes on about but 20k onwards and 2 trackdays later it's still pulling exactly the same as it did when I first put it on, wouldn't be worrying about it mate.

Glad to hear you're still running strong 20K later :)
