Bulb warning light

Featured Replies

Hi, my bulb warning light has been intermittently lighting up on the dash, accompanied the piercing sound of the warning tone! Problem is, I have checked and rechecked all my lights, indicators etc and all are working fine. I have also noticed that when I turn on the headlights the warning light goes out....any ideas whats going on?

Just to add, my car has factory fit xenons if that makes any difference at all to reaching a diagnoses.....

I did obviously read this, but did you check your brake lights?! I only ask as I wasn't aware the bulb out warning covered those also and mine was :D

Swap your reverse bulbs for the brake bulbs, And let us know if that cures it!

You may well have a dodgy bulb!

Yeah I checked, all 3 brake lights working fine, hazards, indicators, sidelights, headlights etc are all working.....

I will give it a go later..... but the thing is, when I turn the headlights on the warning light goes out. When I turn the lights back off, the warning light/noise come on again. If I turn just sidelights on, the warning stays on. My point being, if it was a dodgy rear bulb I would of thought the warning light would go out with my sidelights on too?

Anyway, like I say the problem is intermittent and so far today no warning lights so I might have to wait a day or so before I can tell swapping the bulbs out makes a difference.....

Cheers

I know this is an old thread but did you ever get the bottom of this or does anyone know what the problem might be.  My car has started doing this and I've tried everything, new bulbs etc etc but it seems weird the warning goes out when the headlights are turned on (xenons).

I had the exact same issue which I think I've resolved. The Zenon level sensor linkage was seized on my 05 Fabia  VRS (this sensor is fitted to the near side rear axle beam). I replaced this linkage (albeit not with an oem part as that was on back order from the factory). I  also repaired a damaged cable that plugs into the level sensor. I suspect that this cable has been rubbing against the exhaust heat shield since the car was new. In my case the cable was damaged enough to expose a bare wire which I think may have been grounding itself against the exhaust heat shield thereby causing the dashboard light to come on (accompanied by a very annoying load beep). It's only been a day since I made this repair so can't yet be certain it's fixed the issue, however, so far so good. I'll report back in a few weeks to confirm if this has finally resolved this annoying issue. I should mention that removing the sensor assembly from the car (to replace the seized linkage) is made more tricky by the difficult to remove plug on the sensor. Thankfully you can buy a replacement plug if required.
