Columbus up-dates gobbledygook!

Featured Replies

Oh my God!  For about the third or fourth time I've spent AGES trying to work out what on earth all the Columbus 510 version information means and whether I should/could up-date my SatNav software?

Like others on here I am totally confused by the references to Version numbers e.g. 7.0, Map Version HDD numbers e.g. 7551, SW version numbers e.g. 3984 etc etc.

All I want to know is whether there is a map update available and will it work on my Columbus.

Delivery part number = 3T0035680C

HW version = H55

SW version = 3984

Map = West Europe

Map version HDD = 7551

What on earth does all that mean?

Car (Superb Elegance 4x4 170 Twindoor) was supplied in March 2012. I know this has been on here before but I am STILL left totally confused!

HELP!!!!!!

Ignore the first two.

Your firmware (SW) is fine for 7-digit postcodes so you don't need to update, but 4020+ is out there if you know where to look.

Your maps can easily be updated to 7920 (V9, latest version), again easily available if you know where to look.

Make sure when you burn the discs you use best quality media and burn at 1x speed.  Columbus will tell you straight away if you've got a dodgy disc; if all is fine both operations are very easy and painless.

PM me if you require further assistance.

HTH.

I bought a V9 DVD (NAVTEQ) on t'internet for Western Europe that came with Speed Camera and Traffic Light Monitoring locations as standard selectable options off the Columbus Menu.

Not a genuine disc, Speed camera, and traffic light monitoring are never on the genuine map disc. You have a doctored disc.

So have I.  So what?  It works perfectly.

Why don't you have a word with your local dealer, I've got exactly the same model as you but 2008 and just had it's MOT done at my local dealer as it was a reasonable £39, I asked them about my Sat Nav being out of date and because I had used them before with my other Skoda's they updated it to the latest maps and also to the 7 digit postcode for free, a saving of about £100 apparently

Hi Guys

How do I get to find out what software, firmware and map version I have in my 59 plate Superb II?

I have looked for the 'secret menu' (pressing the settings button for 30Sec) but I do not get the option for the system information.

How do I get that activated?  I have read that there is some software available to get the information but I assume that needs a laptop with a compatible plug to attach to the car?

This has all started as my new phone does not get recognized by the Columbus, I believe that a firmware update will bring the columbus up to date and so fix the problem?

I spoke to my local dealer (Erlstoke) and they want £45+ to look at updating the firmware alone?????

Any advice on the above appreciated.

What's the point of paying for stolen property?

I didn't pay for it.  Anyway, I was responding to the poster's use of the word "doctored"; no-one used the S-word until you. ;)
