New car registration

Featured Replies

Hi folks looking for some advice. I've ordered my first ever new car (been driving the same lovely polo for 12 yrs!) anyway, ordered 1.2 tsi Monte Carlo tech in white. The car is not yet registered or in the UK however it should arrive next week. The dealer knows I'll be on holiday & won't be back until beginning of August. My question is this - what would be the likelihood of the dealer holding off on registration until Sept so it's a 63 plate? Do you think this would be possible? Although I'm super excited about new car I can easily wait until Sept if this would be possible

Hi and welcome. I would ask the dealer straight, say you want it to be a 63 plate rather than asking if thats ok. No idea personally how that all works but, your the customer feel free to be a demanding one.

Welcome.

I had problems with this when i bought a new Fabia in 2011 i wanted a 61 plate. There is set rules applying to this apparently if the car arrives a week before registration its no problem any more than that it can be a problem even if you discuss it with them now. Mine arrived about ten days before and it was allocated a 12 plate. I had to produce a doctors letter to say i had had a operation in this time frame and could not come and sigh for the car, this they said allowed Skoda to relax the rules they then re registered. I did ask about this up front at time of purchase and these rules were pointed out to me. Best of luck with it, maybe your dealer will be more helpfull or you may have to get imaginitive.( tell porkys)

Hi folks thanks for the replies & welcome. Spoke to the garage & they confirmed what you were told brown fox - Skoda rules a car must be registered within 10 days of arriving in UK. Not to worry just means I'll get my new car earlier.
