new colour wheels

Featured Replies

I'm going to get my wheels powder coated black but which do you think would look best against a red fabia vrs they can do them in gloss black which is cheapest or like a metallic black can't decide  ive looked at new fabia's in red and there wheels are a metallic black which do look nice

cheers Stu

You'll never tell the difference unless you are up close cleaning them and for the first 5 miles after cleaning them.

After that either option will become dull from dirt and brake dust and will look exactly the same.

I DIY refurbed a set of 16" Ocatvia spiders in to gloss black

I liked the look but found that when done dark you lose all the definition from the spoke design of the alloys.

I could have done the standard wheels black, as seen here on a totally different car, and the overall effect would have been pretty much exactly the same :)

cheers for that, looks nice with black wheels need to get mine done, gloss black it is then he charges £1 per inch + vat and then my local trye man is going to charge me £5 per wheel  for taking tyre off then replace and balance, think they are 16 inch wheels so going to cost me £97 ish

1£ an inch sounds far to cheap imo to be a top job .. :wonder:

or to save you the effort...

The larger places are able to charge lower prices as they have all the equipment, paint and everything already, they also don't just specialise in wheels only so this is a very small job for them.

Black wheels are terrible

Aweful to keep clean

Scratch in no time

Loose all definition

Tyres look brown

Agree with this tbh

Even a very dark shade of grey would be better

Here's mine 2 weeks ago fresh back from powdercoaters:

My tyres still neede to be 'blackend' but wanted to leave them for a few days before adding any products to the fresh paint.

Thanks, got a nice place in the centre caps for your badges! Ready and waiting! :)

Ive gone with anthracite from the wheel specialist it is similar to the mk2 montie wheels.post-78984-0-85194700-1374871027_thumb.jpeg

Agree with the above on black.

I'm redoing mine DIY in anthracite to see what that looks like....firstly just refurbing with that special primer you use on bare alloys and then filling/ sanding to aim for as good a finish as possible (til I kerb them again!)
