RATTLE

Recommended Posts

I decided to buy a mk2 vrs after driving my girlfriends mums but now 3 months down the line ive developed an anoying rattle on the passengers side sounds like its coming from around the wheel which is on my mother inlaws car also, it only seems to be noticeable on rough roads pot holes and speed bumps. Ive searched online and cant find anything that sounds the same people have said things in the glove box but weve tried that, ive checked the suspension no problems top mounts fine drop links good it had a full look over before leaving the dealership. Its a 60 plate and cant see it having faults already and the fact the same noise is on the other car suggests a common issue to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I apologize if this has already been answered.

I have a rattle from my Monte around the passenger side area and I think its coming from the glove box.

Supposedly there is a bulletin from Skoda on rattles from the dash and there is a modification, I may be wrong though. I'm sure someone else will help you out. Mine is in for a service next week so I'm going to ask them about the bulletin.

If this happens while your on your own with no one in the passenger front seat it could just be the seat belt socket... Mine sounded as you describe and was convinced it was from that area as you describe. I checked everwhere from the under seat box to the glove boxes and hose connections from engine bay and found nothing then as a last result I buckled up the seat belt and rattle went away. So now I always have the seat belt on the passenger side cliped in while on my own and no more rattles....

Hope this helps.

Around a year ago I got the supplying dealer Service Manager to sit in with me for a couple of trips around the block.

There was a rattle from somewhere in the engine bay that I just couldn't pin down. He then took their demo vRS out and it was worse! After a few calls to Skoda UK it turns out the clutches can make this sound (think Ducati dry clutch - sure there is footage on YouTube) but apparently it's normal despite not affecting all DSG equipped cars.

Operation has not been affected at all so perhaps just a bit of a quirk?

How did they sort it?

Yo kent hows you .. skoda have a fixing kit for this but its basically lengths of foam pipe insulation which is pushed down the small chassis tunnel that the fuel lines run down, this is best got to from inside the engine bay. this rattle was always worst just as the revs were settling down to tick over .

Not been able to get to a computer for the last few days but ive checked all the recommended and done some searching and it sounded to me like it was coming from the gearbox area as i had a similar sound from my old escort, from my google searches it sounds like a general noise from the dsg gearbox but still under warranty so ill have a drive down the dealers and get them to have a poke around. if its not a common noise then it must be the dealers doing something as both our vrs's came from the same garage and both have the exact same noise. ill post back after they have gave me an answer if they can that is if not guess ill have to turn the music up lol

I have a rattle on the passenger side in my new vrs mk2 and it turned out to be the storage compartment in the door. I think it's a separate piece of plastic clipped on. My girlfriend holding it steady cured the rattle. She now rides with me all the time and that's her job :-)

I occasionally get the "clutch rattle"; doesn't sound particularly nice, but after a while you do accept it.  It doesn't get any worse and usually on the same types of uneven road surface.  Currently approaching 36k on mine (not bad for a July 12 car..).

My new one rattles the same as the last one; anywhere, any time, dependent on the weather.

I love it when it rains as most of the rattles disappear.

Would be a waste of time taking it to the dealer as the rattles are so random and everywhere.

The new one did start off rattle free, but it didn't last long.

This is the penalty of firm suspension and is a trade off for having such great performance at such a cheap price.

An equivalent VW would be about £6K more and I assume, rattle free.

Well just picked up my vrs from the dealers after they spent the day on it good news got a new clutch fitted the dealership wants my feedback after a weekend of driving it but gonna be going back up there tomorrow as i got 5 mins up the road and the bad news there's still a rattle so scrub clutch of the list only other option now i would say as to what the tech told me is new gearbox but could be a 9 week wait for it.

Previously when i was checking around for what this rattle could be i came across a bit of the under tray that rattles on the heat shield for the exhaust if you get under the passenger side around the exhaust center and tap near the exhaust you will notice this flap of the under tray there's nothing under it but it does come in contact with the heat shield im gonna try and wedge this and see if this could be the rattle that everyone is hearing.

You cant really pin point a sound but if the plastic is vibrating off the heat shield the noise could be traveling and throwing people off as to were its actually coming from. Have a check next time you under the car you'll see what im talking about.
