Jebus.....

3/4 tank and i've done 288 miles and that's a mixture of eco or normal mode.

DSG box kills the fuel economy but it's soooooo lazy not using your left foot or arm, I love it.

Yes I agree - my Octavia is a lovely relaxing car to drive, and I can imagine it would be even more so with DSG, so a reasonable trade off IMO.

v-power, "performance diesel fuel" just like high octane petrol is a waste of money in Octavias. There is nothing in Octy ECU programming that would detect fuel quality and adjust performance to the properties of fuel being currently burned. Any perceived advantages will be well within margin of error and placebo effect.

Agreed. Although to be fair V Power diesel also has enhanced cleaning additives over and above normal diesel.

Fully agree.

I've had 4 chipped VAG diesels (160-200HP after chipping) and ran them with and without high cetane fuels.  No difference to performance or mpg whatsoever, the only difference was the engine noise - they were slightly quieter with the good stuff inside them.

I've also ran superbikes with and without high octane petrol (ZX9R 143HP, ZX12R 180HP) and expected some difference but nothing whatsoever.  They were designed for 95ron fuel and ran seriously well on this.  Would have needed unneccessary fettling for any 97+ron fuel to be worthwhile and 180HP, 230 KG really really doesn't need fettling.

I have seen dyno charts showing the effect of different fuels (petrol) but the conclusion was 200HP = <1% difference.  300HP=~5% difference.  400HP+ = ~10% difference.

Not seen anything for diesels though.

150HP diesel with less than 50,000 miles on the clock = not worth paying 10p+ extra per litre unless you like placebos.

I go by the car's manual. If it recommends using 97 RON petrol then I do so. But never supermarket fuel. I'd rather use 95 RON premium fuels than 97+ octane supermarket fuel unless I've really got no alternative. My sports car drops 4 - 5 mpg minimum when it has to suffer supermarket fuel.

I've only done about 250 miles on just over 1/3 tank of the VPower so far, been using SWMBO's car to offset the 700 miles in two days Mon/Tues! The range was showing a total tank forecast over 600 but dropped to about 590 at mo and averaging 58.5 mpg since refueling....but you'll have to wait a few weeks for the result as it will be parked up for the next two weeks as were off to sunny Portugal with the kids tomorra, first time on a plane with our 3yr old son!! Will catch up with you when we return!
