2013 octavia usb socket, ?

Featured Replies

New to the site so do not know if this has been aired before.

Recently bought Octavia Elegance and have found attaching my iphone to the usb socket produces no response  so am unable to play any music this way or more importantly unable to recharge the phone. The dealer was unable to help (nor Maxine at customer services Skoda UK).

Do I need a special adaptor or cable to facilitate the iphone through the usb socket?

I dont know if you need a different adaptor or anything but they do offer mitsumi connection (at an extra price of course!) to make it compatible for apple products. In other cars people have been able to patch into the back of the stereo and link with their iphones but I dont know about the new skodas. Sorry that probably wasnt a lot of use!! However you can bluetooth into the stereo and therefore play your music from your iphone like that :)

It should at least charge it, my understanding is that it should charge and be selectable to play music, but you can't control the phone from the head unit over USB,

Do they not have the mdi connection any more?

With the mdi, you needed the iPhone lead as using the usb didn't work properly

Try it using bluetooth

Surely it charges though, that's what I want from my USB,

I deliberately cancelled the mitsumi as they currently don't have a connector for lightning (iphone5) devices

The USB is supposed to play music through the system, and charge, but not be controllable from the unit.

If it doesn't charge ALL USB devices. What's the bloody point in it.

Usb doesn't charge on the mdi. If I plug my mobiles microusb lead in, FA happens

To play music from an iPhone you need to have the MDI connection the usb is just for Portable Hard drives as far as i know.

But surely then if it powers a hd it should charge your phone.

David, mine charges and plays music via the USB and also plays via bluetooth. I have the elegance estate mk3. Yours should be able to do this too. Is it worth making some more enquiries with the dealer/techs?

Cheers Andy

Andy is yours android or iPhone?

My 6 year old Leon with a USB can charge any USB device you put in it. It won't see iPhones and won't play anything on them, but it will recognize USB sticks/HDDs and read the folder structure and play music from them.

If yours doesn't at least charge your phone, the unit must be defective. Check with the dealer and get them to be useful. :)

If you use an old iphone as a HDD it will see the files. But with the new models I guess this is not possible.
