Repairing Plastics...?

Featured Replies

Just took a chunk out of my "chin". Didn't see that there was a slightly raised area surrounding a flower bed, so the car just came to rest against a brick corner. What a genius.

It goes with a large chip out of colour-coded grille surround.

I'm thinking I could do a bit of sanding and then build up using a touch-up kit, but would that work on plastic?

TIA

Regards,

Mark

The paint would normally need some sort of plastiser in it to stop it going soft. However if its just a small chip why not try just touching it up. As long as its a small area, you may well get away with it, I know I have in the past.

I did this with my ZX's "chin" when I brushed a bush that had a hidden post in the ground - It cracked the part, and popped out the panel where a fog light would have gone. I had to get a garage to do the honours unfortunately though. :( To date, thats about the worst damage I've ever done to a car. Oh, kerbing both l/h alloys at the same time goes down as a bad one too, although not too obvious to the naked eye.

BTW - never been a fan of using touch up paint. I did lacquer the kerbed bits on my wheels though to stop any further ingress of crap that may cause corrosion. Worked too.

Andy,

I'll try it. Could be worse, I s'pose. Another 1 or 2 cm might have done some big-time damage...

Jason,

Never seen "Alloy wheel laquer" stuff at the likes of Halfords before. Where did you get this?

Cheers,

Mark
