1.3 turbo diahatsu 130bhp have you come across one!

Featured Replies

came up against one of these things earlier on this evening on my way through a long stretch of private road, just happened to be their as well as this bloke.i have to say these are a quick little car, and was only pulling on him from 60 - !!!! speeds until he maxed out his speed and i shot past. just looked up the figures and am very impressed. i have a standard fabia vrs except for the cupra intake and cotton filter. this car looked like the pics i have seen on the net but had fully tinted windows and split twin exhust either side of the bumber so could have been modded. apparently they are a semi automatic steering wheel paddle shift. so watch out, these thing may bite back. did try and smile with a thumbs up, but he didnt look to happy, and wouldnt even look at me. might have been the skoda badge ah well, i thought it was a close call between the two and if i were him i'd be happy!

My unmapped furby has 249 lb/ft .

Not all about the torque - the Daihatsu weighs as much as a crisp bag ;)

SWMBO drove a 1.6 (she says) of these things (non-turbo I'm guessing).

She thinks it did it in 6 (I reckon more like 8-10) but it was quick.

These things are way fast - very light, and those engines go quick :)

They are seriously quick. I know that the 1.3 can do 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. Handling is a bit ropey but you can fix that. Excellent car, a 4X4 version too.

it may have half the torque but it has it for more than 50rpm(diesel redline)and as said weighs bout as much as a nats nut

Also worth noting it's a 4 speed, so 'long' gears, coupled with light car, staying in gear for about 2..3 times as long as the Furby would.

I had trouble with a Nova yesterday. Nearly had to try

you lot laugh at novas and things but my nova (when it worked :o ) would have given a standard fabia vRS a run for its money,it wasn't bad against my standard 4x4 in a straight line drag in the dry. but with about 100bhp/120lbft and weighing about 700Kg you can see why

Which reminds me - did you see the Nova that overtook the late'ish shape STi Impreza at Bruntingthorpe after being held up for several laps ?

Power to weight (plus maybe some driver skill). I've driven the YRV Turbo when I was getting a car for the parents (got 2.0 Fabia instead) and while it wasn't very sophisticated, turbo + light shell = quick. I assume they can be tuned as well ?!?

Rob

my mates just finishing fitting his 2.0T into his carlton instead of the 3.0 straight six

his next little project is midmounting a 300bhp 2.0T into his nova saloon and making it RWD

A run for it's money? The Nova would have slaughtered it unless it had had the pikey mods done ;)

Chris

As I said, I struggled and had to really push hard. It went round the roundabout pretty darn quick though, I don't think the Furby would have made it at that speed (I sure wasnt gonna try).

Totally agree with you - high power to weight ratio, and petrol too so it would fly :D

But that nova did have the 150bhp redtop engine in it... :D

If there is no power the torque doesn't matter. Torque is the force it takes to start a rotation. You have twice the torque, but both your cars are pretty much the same power. You could pull a heavy load much more easily than a petrol car.

I've been in an Ibiza GT, which is 90bhp. It's got a lot of torque, it feels faster than my car, but it isn't. I have 122BHP running in my car, and about 127lb of torque. The car pulls. I could take a vRS easy, simply because the power figures are too close to each other and because I have a lighter car by around 125kgs. Yours would feel like it's pulling like a monster, mine wouldn't, but we'd be right next to each other.

Let it be known though, that 125lb (170Nm) is a very good torque figure for a small petrol car.

Having owned my Fabia PD100 for a week, I have come to the conclusion that it isn't a great deal quicker than my old 1.4 Polo (71bhp on the rollers). I can only put it down to weight.

It is, however, way more refined, economical and better looking. Which leads nicely to the Diahatsu... Yes, it's quick, but look at the thing! The windows don't line-up, there are angles all over the place and it looks like MC Hammer's boot.

can't touch this ... YRV ? :D

The YRV's are a comedy car!

130bhp torbo petrol, auto box and van profile!

Don't speed round bends in one!! A definite must for a test-drive though!

things that come to mind about all these likkle jap cars are washing machiens spin speed, o as well as fridgefreezers and dishwashers on wheels!
