bluetooth retro-fit issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks

retro-fit my Bluetooth tonight with a new wiring harness and 7P6 035 730K module and recoded my rns510 and can with vdcs .

right my issue is (not really that fussed)  all the buttons on the RNS under the extras menu are shaded out and when i try to stream music via Bluetooth it only plays a 1 second clip.it stays connected to the phone for calls etc but its struggling streaming audio.

my rns510 firmware is due a update as its on 1404 iirc.due you think a update would help.

any help is appreciated

I'm sure I recall reading you needing newer firmware for BT streaming.

If you have 1404 firmware factory installed, you probably have a new enough Columbus to be able to upgrade to 4020 firmware.

This may resolve the issue but would be a good thing to do anyway as you'll be able to get 7-digit postcodes.

Upgrading firmware is not without warning of destruction, but that seems very rare.

It may be that your BT module needs coding differently or the Columbus needs it activating in the menus. You may possibly have missed something, so check again.

If it is activated correctly then after pressing 'Media' on the Columbus there will be a row of options across the top of the screen including the BT symbol. If that is greyed out, you are close. If its not there, you need to look for the problem somewhere.

It may be that your phone isn't 'pushing' the required BT signal type.

the bt audio button is there and green til i press it ..the music track name etc is there and i can skip track via the stalk and rns.just plays a 1 second clip but the name of track etc still remains.

Kb.. do you have a copy of firmware i can upgrade with ive got 4020 on my pc but need 39xx to partition for speedcams etc i believe :bandit:

.I just prefer a tested firmware than a untested download.

also if i dont need speed cams can i just put 4020 straight on ?

You can go straight to 4020 without issue. I know two people who have gone from 1xxx firmware straight to 4020.

To get speed cameras you need a copy if v.9 maps. The ones with speed cameras on are unofficial ones based upon VW maps as I don't think Skoda have officially released v.9 yet (I may be wrong on that).

The ability to have speed cams is only dependent upon having a new enough firmware to support the newer POI format. I think ones of the 3xxx firmwares introduced this but without checking I do not know which one.

You do not have to go to 3xxx firmware first. You can go straight to 4020 and get the maps from your dealer (but it won't have speed cans and may still be v.8).

I downloaded my 4xxx firmware from the 'My GTi' website, so it is not untested.

PM me if you want further help. I may be able to assist you with firmware.

Ive got the same issue although I can still stream music if I go back a screen it comes up on screen bt audio and I can stream music although cannot control music through head unit or see song details and the second I go to the correct screen it stops playing although as above all details are on screen and it is playing just no sound .

I want it sorted but don't really know what to do or if I will cause more probs than I sort

AFAIK you can't 'control' the streaming device from the HU.

You have to 'push' the music from the device to the Columbus meaning that new tracks need to be selected on your phone/iPod/etc.

I controlled my iPhone music via my bolero headunit with same kit I can only think the Columbus needs coded here's hoping

Mine is a 'D' version of the same module and all I can do is skip forward & back & pause/play which to me is pretty basic, but I suppose it's control of sorts!

Sorry yes that's what I mean by control hope its just a coding issue
