Superb II clunk sound

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone diagnose what this may be.

When I lock the wheel to the right e.g. when making a 90degree turn at low speed, I hear a clunking noise every time, noticed this over last couple of weeks. I don't recall this in car previously.

I don't hear this when I lock steering wheel to the left.

Cheers

Is it constant or just once you hear it?

If it's constant it will be a CVJ

might want to check your wheel nuts are tight as well.

thanks for reply.

I only here it the once, on full lock of wheel to the right only, don't hear it again as I straighten the wheel after making the turn.

I'll check the wheel nuts ths afternoon.

Are they OE wheels and tyres (sizes) maybe a tyre is catching something or the tracking has been knocked out by a pothole etc?

Whats the age and mileage of the car?

I'd say that it's the CV joint, Typical sound is clunking on full lock.

Worn CV joints tend to click on every revolution of the wheel (when on full lock) though.

How's your power steering fluid level? Don't know whether it applies to Superb, but when my Ford had a split CV boot I'd get odd noises at full lock owing to low psf.
