Would you buy a 3 year old VRS?

^^^^^^ i agree a little with what your saying but i know of 4 people who have and have had 1.4tsi 180bhp engines cars and all have had new engines due to excessive oil consumption, calculated by the manufacturer on the tests they do

Just a thought, but I'll hold my hands up and say that I bought my 2010 Fabia VRS (now had for six months, just out of warranty in July) without getting my nose into the pages upon pages of useful Briskoda forum posts on the 'issues' until well after I bought it, and in fact that was to look up tuning, but stumbled on the comments nonetheless. I then lapsed needlesslyinto mild panic about my own car and it's oil usage, but with knowledge gained on here I'm now confident on best methods for getting a consistent dip on the oil ( thanks George and others ). I am optimistic now after a pinch over 5k miles done and only 3/4 litre used that mine is a good 'un and intend to keep it well beyond three years.

One piece of reassurance for me is the 37,000 miles already done between myself and the previous owner, as said above I would be more wary of low milers with multiple owners, also checking with Skoda UK it has never had any oil related warranty work in all this time, something you could check on a potential purchase car, iin fact mine has only been looked at for a door lock issue and some squeaks and rattles from the cabin which I requested at the end of its three years.

So I guess I would say, look for reasons to own this fab little car rather than reasons not to, for the money there is little I can think of that can touch it.

I brought a 11 plate vRS, and don't get me wrong it's a cracking car, however just like the above stumbled across the oil comsumption topic and sure enough mine was a little drinker too. Kind of took the shine off the car but hey, no big deal as I had a years warranty left.

Sure, over 8 one hour each way trips to the garage, being in a courtesy car for over a month, arranging to take time off work to deal with it, fighting SUK to get them to coff for the repair as they tried accusing me of remapping it which previous owner had done, and many many phone calls later its finally back with me and pleased to report all is running smooth so far.

Now going what I have been though, would I recommend buying a 3 year old vRS? Umm only if you had warrenty or bags of cash to get it sorted if it goes wrong. Without these, not a chance.

Should also say the oil isn't the only problem I had, DSG faults, alarm issues. Not sure how common these are?

I had:

Engine

Turbo

Fuel Pump fail

ECU fault

Brake light sensor

And on going wiring loom fault (never got sorted as sent the car back)

Agree with the comments, some cars have issues, some cars have serious issues, but if you were buying into a three year old car with avg miles and 1-2 owners on it and could make a call to Skoda to check what work has been done I would guess you could spot a pup easily by the string of warranty work already carried out. You would expect over three years and 30,000 miles problems would have raised their heads already.

Maybe this is an over optimistic way to look at it but maybe you could look at the first three years as a sifting out process making the bad 'uns easier to spot, come to think of it, maybe it's safer to buy a three year old CAVE with normal miles, 1 owner and researchable history than a shiny new CTHE off the production line. There's food for thought.

 thats totally correct about 'Oil usage not being the only problem',  Oil needing put in to the way a car is not really a problem.

 

With the Twinchargers it can be an obvious  Symptom showing that bigger problems or future problems could be an issue.

 

Personally i believe as i keep saying often. (i know i say it too often.)

cars that have had Warranty work carried out correctly should maybe give piece of mind,

Its just the Service book and receipt folder can be rather lacking in Information and Skoda like their customers to be  kept like Mushrooms,
