Interior swap.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just bought a 2001 Octavia Elegance 1.8T 4x4 Estate,

Nearly didn't as it has the Beige/Yellow interior but the outside and the mechanical condition of the car swung it.

So now looking for a grey or black interior.

I've done a little bit of reading and it seems that i can use the seats from many VAG cars, Audi S3, Golf, Seat something.

But not sure about the door cards, do they have to be from the Octavia ?

My seats have airbags in so i know i need to replace them with airbag seats to keep the insurance company and air bag ecu happy.

I get the impression that all the Mk1 VRS didn't have airbags in the seats, is that correct.

Are there any higher trim specs than the Elegance that did have airbag seats ?

Is the rear seat the same in the saloons as it is in the estate ?

Sorry for all the questions, thanks,

Jim

Think so long as they're the 5 door version they'll fit

L&K is the next (and final) trim level above Elegance.

Door cards need to be from an Octy estate (not sure if the rear hatch trims are the same or not)

Rear seats the same.

You can fit the 3dr front seats (and then had the additional tippy-up feature if you are struggling to find a suitable Octy donor car, say from an A3 or mk4 golf.

Would possibly have a vRS interior coming up for grabs if you'd be interested?

Door cards as said will have to be from an Octavia Estate. Nothing else will fit. However, some people have cut the centres out of other platforms door cards, and tigersealed it back onto Octavia doorcards.

Interior can be from (and this includes carpet)

VW Golf MkIV

VW Bora

Audi A3 MkI

Seat Toledo MkII

Seat Leon MkI

and obviously any MkI Octavia.

The 2 door platform cars have slightly narrower rear seats, but it is nothing to lose sleep over. Here is the gap of Audi S3 seats in my Octavia Estate;

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Unlike that dead moth in the pic, which bothers me greatly. :D

Tip - The Seat's have some of the nicer seats, in my opinion, unless you can pick up S3 seats cheap.

s3s are def nicer in my experience/opinion, the vrs seats do not have airbags unless they are from a wrc spec car (which is unlikely).

Ive got mk4 Golf leather Recaros in my vrs and they fit perfectly. And they have airbags in too so they would work for your top spec model. Plus darn nice seats. Doorcards wise though just whichever fit best!

Wow, Thanks for all the replies and detailed information.

Thanks for the offer of the vRS interior Matt, but if it doesn't have airbags then i think i'll steer clear of that sort at the moment.

I've a friend who runs an Audi garage so i'll ask him about S3 seats and maybe just change the rest of the parts to grey.

Thanks again,

Jim

The downside of the S3 seats, is the rear bench has a centre lap belt only, rather than the usual cross-torso belt. And the quality of the rear seats while good, are nowhere near as nice as the Recaro fronts.

I have A3 turbo seats in mine, from a 3 door. front seats in, and still flip foward too.  I put the rear seat squabs in but kept MY vrs seat backs in to keep it 5 seater. Got rear tints so no one sees the difference. lol but at some  point i will get center done in leather to match.

To be honest, I kinda wish I'd kept the rears and had them retrimmed, although I was missing the headrests for mine anyway. The vRS front seats are crap, but the rears are definitely firmer than the S3 seats. But the Recaro's take some beating for support. I don't think there's anything else in the MkIV platform that matches them. I still need to get my ugly dirty white door trims covered...
