locked out

Featured Replies

Had the battery disconnected while I worked on the car. Re-connected and the car has locked itself. Unfortunately both sets of keys are inside the car (don't ask). Any easy way in? And I know an open forum is possibly not the best way to ask this question!

I think the only option is to smash a window.

Lock smith? I believe it's quite easy to break into but quite hard to steal due to the immobiliser.

Thanks gents.. managed to get someone from the local garage out to work their magic and get the car open. Both sets of keys now back in the house. Won't do that again!

The C/L on my Passat has a dodgy door microswitch that has locked me out - once with the keys in the ignition. My local garage helped out. Their kit included a thin, wide nylon wedge to force the top of the door open just enough to put fishing tackle (bent coat hangers?) through the gap. So I've knocked up a wooden wedge - just in case. Afterwards the door frame needed bending back a bit (I did this with the window down) and it's now hunky-dory.

Naughty boys know this but, as Chris has said, they can't get past the immobiliser to make it worth doing.

Yesterday after driving 20 miles or so,  with side lights on, (not sure that is relevant),I stopped, lights still on, switched off the engine, got out closed my door leaving my keys in the ignition and  let my passenger out. I then closed the passenger door, helped her to her front door, that took all of 20 seconds. When I  then turned back to the car I found it had locked itself, with me on the outside - keyless! Luckily I was not too far from home and was able to get my daughter to come across with my spare keys. However that is the first time that has happened. This is my second Fabia and I cannot fault them. Also the first time I have stopped and not taken out the ignition keys. Hard lesson but never had that happen before. Also I noted that the buzzer did not sound alarming me to the fact that the side lights were still on. Any ideas if that is normal behaviour or indicative of something else wrong. I tried the same sequence on getting home and the first time the warning buzzer sounded but after switching on and off again it did not The car is a Fabia hatchback 1.4 Tdi reg 2006.

a locksmith will try prizing the top of the door back holding it with door stop style wedges and use a long hook to get the keys or a stick to try pressing the door unlock button :)

Before resorting to other black arts to open your car.
