Tsi oil consumption.

Featured Replies

Calling all tsi owners, what (if any) oil consumption have you had so far. Just curious as have had to put a smidge of oil in a couple of times to keep the level on max. The engine has done 700+ miles, so running in nicely now. Trying to judge the dipstick to quantity but it looks though a 1/4 of dipstick between min and max is about 200-250ml, so about a litre from min to max. (Rough estimates!). Engine has run in so far on mostly motorway but has done a bit of A road and town work. Only used super unleaded (cost not an issue as do such short usage-leisure only). My oil consumption so far is well within factory spec, but hoping it will ease up a bit. Oil ain't cheap you know!!

700 miles running in? Thats not even close, you need about 2-3K miles to loosen it.

Don't baby the engine, give it some beans often but not too long.

HJ has a good way how to run it in http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/running-in-a-petrol-engine/

Honestly I've not spared and babied my engine, sure not punished it either, and between services 10K km, I add maybe 500ml oil.

It will bed nicely but its important to do the running in properly as it will be good or bad in oil for its life depending on run-in.

Enjoy it :)

Yes, know 700 miles not run in yet, but with 700 miles in it is "running" in now and is already beginning to loosen abit, performance is massively improving but not giving full beans as it is still all a bit new. Thanks for your input!

I ran mine in fairly gentle the first 500 miles, then increased revs every 100 miles until I hit the 1000 mile mark, After that free for all!
TBH you dont need to run it in anyway, just make sure its warmed up before gving it the beans.  Mine only uses a little oil now, maybe a quarter of the dipstick over the full year, so doesnt need topped up until service time, and my cars modified so stock it prob wouldnt use any.

1 litre

1,8 Tsi.

2000Km.

Hasn't used any oil so far, still at the top of the stick.

Elegance dsg 1.8 tsi 20'000 km dippstick level at almost Max.

First thing after colecting the car was give the engine working temperatur on oil and water then a few fast trips throug some steepe under sea tunnels, to Get continous load(boost) in the same gears. After that normal mixed driving.. No oil consumtion...

Do not pamper the engine, thras it:)

Hello, I had to put 3 to 4dl around 10000km.

No warning yet at the dashboard; just the gauge too close to the mini for my taste.

1.8 TSI as well.

I`ve had a few new motorbikes but never a new car. I live in the lake district so tend to get a few miles in working it over the passes with different gears, throttle and a good bit of engine braking on the way down :D

Looking forward to getting my new vRS soon :D :D

Octavia mk III 1.2 TSI 105hp 19.000km

Have to refill two times after 8-9.000km 'cos a got yellow warning lamp for oil.

TSi units are known for a lot of oil consumption later on in their life, (more so 1.4 and 1.8)

Loads of threads online across various forums.

As its such earily days... top up when required and then start recording from 3k plus if it was me.

7k miles on mine and original oil is still well above the min mark. Perhaps it came slightly over filled.

I've done about 15,400 miles in my vRS TSI.  I check oil regularly and it is still near the max mark on the dipstick.  I've never had to top it up.

A lot of those miles are motorway and I don't thrash it (well - only occasionally).
