vRS vs GTR

the proud tales they have to tell.

I'm sorry, but that is funny

99% of the Fabias on here are slower than my Octy - I know what it can and cannot beat. So, when I read some of the "proud tales" I just laugh. I'm not talking about catching someone of guard, in my case I am talking about on track where people are genuinely trying so it is a "fair fight".

Bottom line, I don't see anything remotely unbelieveable about losing to a Skyline or having a short moment where he wasn't gaining before passing like I was stood still.

Hardly a tall tale. Maybe the Octy mob are just overcompensating??

Also, was a blue one, definetly. See it regularly. I've also seen one a year older (on the plate at least) with the rest of the plate the same. I think it's a pretty common plate on them.

It's just a shame that a few members think they are funny by ridiculing them' date=' their owners, and the proud tales they have to tell.

I thought this was supposed to be a skoda owners community. Does everyone not share a common interest? It looks more like "them and us" every time I read a thread.

Not much community spirit.[/quote']

I think it's all done in good fun.Nothing serious whatsoever and any tales are always a good read :) .Loads of community spirit and very nice people :)

And yes I did find the driver of a C class 270 tdi merc very frustrated that our Fabia vRS gave the twerp (wont tell you the full story) a very hard and embarrassing time.Mind you I know nothing about diesel mercs so it was probably just a tortoise with a three pointed star on the bonnet :D

Shifty,it's all just good humour and having both cars I love them the same (but my octavia is quicker than my wife's fabia.Don't tell her I said that or its no tea for me ;) )

Some very good points there which I do agree with' date=' but we are an open forum with differing opinions. Fortunately we do have a good mix keeping it real and with the odd bit of fantasy which I find hilarious, sorry. :o

However, the sites community spirit (which you have chosen to ridicule) was not reflected in your post and has been ammended accordingly. I would suggest you have another read of the site rules on personal abuse.[/quote']

I don't wish to argue, but I don't believe I ridiculed the site's community spirit. I like this site very much and indeed, spend far too much time on it. What I said was there didn't seem to be much community spirit, which was in reference to some members comments. I did refer to some members in a derogatory way, but it was not aimed at a specific person, just a minority of persons who post something negative in every thread that has a fabia vrs in it.

I don't think that can be construed as personal abuse.

Like I said, we are all owners/fans (for want of a better word) of Skoda vehicles, but in nearly every thread posted by a Fabia vrs driver, an octavia driver has to poke holes in the story, refer to racetrack driving, or generally take the pee.

Why?

In fact, im going to start a thread asking the very same question........

Go for it :)

Do you believe the following?

I was out driving my Octy last night when I came across a Gallardo. We pulled up at some light, when they turned green I managed to out accelerate him

Great! My car can out accelerate a Gallardo.

Does that story fit OK with your "proud tales"? What does it make you think?

a) the guy is a ****

B) the lambo wasn't trying

c) the guy is lying?

d) my hero! < swoon> I now know I have the fastest car on the road

Go on, be honest.

As for the racetrack comment, I'll assume that is aimed at me. The only reasons I bring it up are:

There are no speed limits

There is no danger to anyone else as it is a controlled environment

The other guy is more than likely trying, otherwise why be on a tracK?

They will more than likely be in the right gear and therefore not off guard / trying to work out where they are etc etc.

It's nothing to do with community spirit, it is to do with people claiming there cars are faster than they are / making themselves look ridiculous / making this community look like it is full of boy racing knobswhen in fact we aren't

Can't ALL of us Skoda drivers just stick together?! We all have good cars that are often ridiculed by halfwit's driving so called "quality" cars. Face facts, we own way above average cars that get laughed at by stupid melon-headed ars*wipes! We can all get behind OUR badge and celebrate our wise desicions....

Can't ALL of us Skoda drivers just stick together?!

What are people having trouble grasping? And why the hell should I "get behind" people who make statements such as the following:

"I out accelerated a new BMW M5 last night and he was really trying"

"The Gallardo was trying, I could tell, I think I surprised him with the speed of my car"

"The M3 couldn't pull away from me"

"Point to point on a mix of roads, it takes some beating."

How many more examples do you need? "You" are in a 12 or 14k hatchback with reasonable performance and "you" are claiming the above. OK I'm not a very good driver, but I reckon given a Gallardo even I could muller a Fabia / Octavia

I used to have a Renault 5 Turbo Van ;) One evening we had this big fat car behind us that we thought was an Omega, pulled along aside at the lights to find it was an R34 Skyline.

My little Renault murdered the Skyline off the line, up to about 30mph then he flew past :(

Obviously if I'd of been in a Fabia it would have been a different story ;)

it is to do with people claiming there cars are faster than they are

Not always, sometimes people are simplay stating they beat that car somehow. Drivers have a lot to do with it. I have a Furby vRS and although I don't think it's the fastest car on earth it's a lot better than some small hatches. I've been beaten off the line by many (comparibly crap) cars off the line, not because their car is faster or better than mine but because I can't do performance starts for sugar.

I know people with incredibly fast cars who can't drive them to get the performance out of them. If you came up against a Mini Coooper S in a Fabia vRS and the guy in the mini has only just passed his test or is genuinely a bad driver, no matter how hard he tried (even on a track) he might not have a chance against a good driver in the Furby.

Quite right Mort, and I don't have a problem with that - but come on an M5, a Gallardo, an M3? All of them "trying"? Be realistic.

You are of course right but being blunt I reckon Stevie Wonder driving a Gallardo would out accelerate a Fabia or an Octy, if he was trying :D

Driver does make a huge difference though, as I posted in the other thread

he might not have a chance against a good[/b'] driver in the Furby.

Indeed, I've seen several modded Octy RSs have problems with modded Fabias on track, even though the performance diferetal was huge :D

I tried my boss off the line in her Z3, it was very wet and I had 5 people in the car. She wasn't even trying (didn't know I'd do it) and I lost ground as I just span the wheels. :D

I think I'll take a race training thing at some point, or at least do something where I can learn to push my car in a safe way.

Z3, rwd, so weight transfer will help her whereas it will work against you (unless you try it in reverse :D ) Plus your car weighs more (by about 300kg if there were 5 of you on board) :D

IAM is very worth doing.

Massive insurance difference too :) Only £80 ish IIRC.

I almost had her! I almost had her!!

Styled it off though, she though I just meant to wheelspin next to her :D

May be branded a Ch** but at least no one realises I can't drive!;)

I set my sights a little lower and had a play with a Skyline GTR V-Spec yesterday.

Lost again. :(

However... there was a short period where the little Furby was holding it's own between about 50ish and 80ish where he wasn't gaining. I was truly amazed!

It was uphill off a roundabout and I started ahead of him' date=' he passed me when I got to about 100 like I was standing still! :thumbdwn:[/quote']

SteVRS,

Fair play for posting. I agree that we should be able to post without being ridiculed (although it is all in good humour, i think). It would be a dry forum if no-one posted anything they thought would be contentious.

I think regardless of whether or not the skyline was trying you still have a glimmer of hope that he was.

Come on guys...... Less of the harsh treatment, reading this thread conjours (sp) up images of a 5 yr old boy standing on christmas eve in front of the christmas tree crying, as his 9 yr old brother takes great pleasure in telling him that santa doesn't exist.

I've asked if he can bring all the Octy boys some torque :rofl::rofl:

Guess they've missed out again ;)

I don't wish to label this but i'm going to.

I think you are a fare minded person but you should re-read your post before I amended it and I quote.

"I thought this was supposed to be a Skoda owners community".

"Not much community spirit".

Sound familiar!!

And the word ******* refering to curtain members, sounds like personal abuse to me, before I changed it that is.

My post after censorship

It's a very good car.....period. If I had had £20k to spend on a car' date=' i'd still buy a Fabia Vrs and spend the change on a few mods.

Remapped, it's a very fast, very good car, and fair play to those who have stories to tell about mid range pull and giving much more powerful, more expensive cars a run for their money.

Point to point on a mix of roads, it takes some beating.

It's just a shame that a few members think they are funny by ridiculing them, their owners, and the proud tales they have to tell.

Not much community spirit.

You substituted the word members (in red for illustration purposes) for my word which was *******. As you can see, it was not in the context to which you recently refer. My statement was not a generalisation of ALL members, but was in reference to a FEW members, thus not a curtain as you put it.

As far as I can see this was the only edit you performed on my post, and having seen the results of the other thread I started, your post being one of the latter ones, I stand by the word "*******".

I've asked if he can bring all the Octy boys some torque :rofl::rofl:

Guess they've missed out again ;)

what sort of torque does your fabia produce and for how long?

Figures now averaged by a second set of rollers but maxed out 248 & 390.

Couldn't hold these on a sustained basis, settled for 236 and 379. :)
