Make folding mirrors Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a new user and I would like to submit a question quite complex. Do you think you can add to the motor that allows you to fold the mirrors, without replacing them entirely? Units are used for motion control? Mine are adjustable and heated, but you are lost in a glass of water adding this detail, which I had on the old series of Ibiza! Absurd but true! Thank you guys!

Adding motors to existing units with a separate non standard switch and wiring to the battery might be feasible but I am not aware of anywhere to get hold of them separately. And even if you could they wouldn't then work with the key.

I looked at this in detail for my pre facelift model and concluded it was impossible to wire them in to the existing switch and door regulators based on the door modules I have (which support memory folding).

The mirror units do exist for pre facelift with folding but not if you also want memory units. Given they exist it suggests they can be made to work but not (I think) using the existing door regulators.

For facelift models I can't comment.

Yup, SCZ told me that they never made a single pre-fl pair of folding mirrors so I left it at that.

Thanks guys, but I still trust in a solution. I give enough power to the motors to fold the mirrors via the adjusting knob of the same and only when necessary, even without activation by remote control!

The problem with that is the switch sends a variable voltage depending on the selection to the door regulator. This then interprets the signal and sends the fold message to the mirror. If you want to bypass the regulator, then I don't think the switch signal on its own will activate a folding motor. This is because it uses the same wire to send the voltage to the regulator for each selection on the switch.

But if you do manage it I would be interested in what you do so please keep us posted.
