Another Firmware Question - RNS510

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Newbie here, so please be gentle. Been searching the site and reading mygti.com and am rather confused

I haven't been able to get a definitive view on what my firmware versions (the dealer tech was more confused than me!!!!) - Am getting confused by the part number and the 'revision' version.......

So first questions:

1. I know that my head unit is 3T0035680A what is the latest version of firmware I can move to?

2. From the process of deduction I think I am on a 2xxx version at the moment (no information from pressing setup, but I do have the time displayed when unit if off). Does this sound correct?

3. Does it matter what version of maps I'm on if I want to upgrade, can I go direct to v9?

Thanks in advance

Apparently 4020 will work on that model Columbus. I have the same serial number on mine which I got from the sticker fixed to the back of it. I tried to install 4020 on mine the other day but failed. Luckily though I could put back version 3810 without any problems. I have found that this works perfectly, but sometime in the future I will probably try 4020 again when I get some good branded discs to burn it to.

1. 4020 - go straight to it

2. Not relevant - as you are upgrading

3. No & yes.

You have same part number as me, so I know this info is correct as I have done it.

Thanks for the responses. Just one more question if I may about going direct to 4020. Some of the threads suggest that I would need to upgrade via 3xxx due to the way it repartitions the HDD? What are you views on this and if you went straight to 4020 have you had any issues (partition seems to be about PIOs??)?

I've known people go from 1xxx or 2xxx straight to 4xxx with no problems. They had 3 partitions after the upgrade and could use v.9 maps.

Ok, tried the upgrade to 4xxx and it was rather stressfull (I work in IT and regard myself as pretty tech aware). It crashed a few times, but now seems to have worked (I have no idea how as I had to use a rescue disc), but it is showing as 4024 now.

One side effect is that I have lost the phone option on the MFD. I believe this is a known issue? Will the phone option reappear if I upgrade the bluetooth module or do I need to downgrade to a 3xxx version?

What BT module do you have?

I've upgraded to 40xx firmware from 38xx (and from 2xxx before that) and had no issues with anything disappearing.

My BT module is 7P6...E (I think I've remembered that correctly).

I have a 5xxxxxC module and plan to upgrade to a 5xxxxxD or later.

What are the first 3 characters?

5KO

5K0...E or later should do it.

Check on ther threads in this forum first.

Works fine with D or above 5k0 units

Sorry. Meant 'D' or later.

Thanks all.It is a bit of a strange one as it is working now and then. Think I will try to get a new module.
