key fob wont lock doors and arm the alarm?

Featured Replies

hi all,

my fabia classic sdi 2002, wont lock the doors by the key fob (it opens them ok) and ive noticed the alarm led isnt flashing anymore.

ive disconected the battery inside the fob to see if it needed resetting or something but the problem still remains.

does anybody have any ideas on what it could be?

thanks in advance.

Ar the all the doors, boot and bonnet fully closed?

I have the same with my spare key, all of the above happening with it, works fine with the other key.

Red light even flashes when I press the buttons on the spare fob, which opens the car and starts it fine; though it doesnt arm/disarm the alarm

Try replacing the battery. Sorted my spare key out with similar issues you're having.

when you press the lock button can you actually feel the button click under the rubber pad? Sometimes the microswitches can break or come away from the circuit board. There easy to replace, takes longer for the soldering iron to heat than it does to solder on a new microswitch

new battery inserted, microswitches working fine.

still doing it.....now a new problem when you get in and close the door/s after about 10secs it locks itself????

Does your lights-on bleeper work when you open the driver's door with your lights on?

Some local pikey with a scanner maybe? Interrupting your signal? Do you park on a drive? Is there a sky/virgin box or multiroom thingy nearby? All known to cause interference mate. Worth a check.

everything is working as normal...except i cant lock it with the buttons on the big key and the alarm led doesnt come on....i checked with the spare keys (they look brand new lol) and they work the same (only open and wont lock)....stood there pressing it over 50 times and it worked once (locked but no alarm led)...then wont again....

when inside the car the locks work as they should with the switches on the door card.......so the only way i can lock it on the outside is with the other slim key (without the buttons on it) by turning it in the lock.

checked fuse number 49 (central locking) and its ok.

TMB...no - but i dont think that ever has??? ...it buzzes when i come home at night and turn the ignition off and take out the key and the lights are still on.

munstaar - i dont think its a signal issue as it is like it everywhere..and has been like it for 2 years now lol

would an ODB diagnostic device show any problems with central locking and the alarm??

would like to add ...the new problem (when you get in and close the door/s after about 10secs it locks itself????) only happens now and again...not all the time.

Get a VCDS scan.

Likely the broken loom issue in the drivers door

thanks gadget man - would this be easy to get at by taking the door card off???

also been 'experimenting' just now....the courtesy light doesnt work on the drivers side door but does on the passenger side so sounds like a contact switch???

I believe this is why your doors are locking themselves. The microswitch on the driver's door lock is failing/failed and doesn't tell the control unit when the door has been opened, so it relocks them as it's designed to do if you unlock the doors but don't open a door within a specified time (about 20/30 seconds). The microswitch failure is a very common issue. That's why your lights-on bleep and courtesy light don't work with the door open either. You might have two separate issues regarding the key fob thing and this.

Try this to confirm - unlock the doors. Open the driver's door and leave it open for 30 seconds. Do the doors automatically relock themselves with the driver's door still open?

thanks TMB....didnt work.....left it for about 2 mins....didnt re-lock, so shut the door and had to lock it by turning the key in the lock.

would the microswitch think the doors always open? this would be logical as to why the alrm wont set as it thinks the doors still open and not locked??

just read your link for the diy job :D wicked stuff mate - might end up having to do that.

Yes it could have failed in that way.

Yeah, you just tape the window to stop it falling in the door. Here's a guide http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/119359-removing-the-ancillaries-carrier/
