Post 2012 Roomster Headlights

Featured Replies

In a previous life I had a Fabia with probably the worst exterior lighting I have ever experienced on a car since I first passed my test in 1970..It was a MY 2010 with projector headlights that didnt actually project light in any meaningful forward motion at all, or dangerous if you prefer. Driving it at night was an experience I would rather not repeat...

I have researched extensively on the site and what I have sort of sorted is that from MY2012 Skoda changed the system so that the projector lights actually had 2 bulbs rather than the one previously on both the Roomster and Fabia. Firstly can anyone confirm that since this change the lights on the Roomster are now powerful to light up the road so you can actually see where you are going or is help needed, still, by fitting replacement bulbs such as  Osram Night Breakers or Phillips Extreme.

I`m getting delivery of mine on the First of September and the dealer has agreed to fit either of these should I wish so your recent experiences at night would be greatly appreciated..In the event change is required any views re Osram v Phillips..

As always yours views, whatever, will be appreciated...Thanks

I have a MY2008 Roomster Scout with woeful projector headlights, like you I tried all sorts of uprated bulbs including 100w bulbs.

The solution was found by investing in a set of £35 HID's. Pardon the pun but the difference is night and day, I rarely use Main Beam at all now

My 2010 Roomster has twin headlights, the main beams (inners) are reflector lights and perfectly adequate. The dipped beams (outers) are projectors and inadequate but not dangerously so. I'd like to change the bulbs in the projectors bit access is a nightmare.

Every Roomster I see seems to have a different system.

The old roomster - on 07 had awful headlights, the new one has only been out after dark once and first impressions are that they are much better. Both dipped and main seemed better set up than on the old one. Of course it could be my imagination and that the bulbs, lenses and covers are all factory fresh and therefore performing well at the moment.

I had Philips xtreme vision last year £20 a set and after a bulb blew I tried the Osram nightbreaker plus £10 a set which I am currently on. tbh I don't really notice much of a difference between them, certainly not to warrant double the price.

I had the same problem with my "08" Roomster. What's involved with fitting HID'S ?

There are two types of headlight unit for each version of the Roomster....(4 in total)...............bloody stupid.........there was a post in which someone put up pictures of the four types

Many thanks for your views guys, appreciated...think I`m going to have Osram Nightbreakers fitted cant do a any harm as the dealer is prepared to fit them as a goodwill gesture. Have had a good look at the newbie today and it does look like a different and better system to 3 years ago..

Doe's the same setup do High and Low beam ?  On Ebay they offer High and Low beam, which is best to get, i'm not after looks, best lighting.   B)

Since taking delivery in early June I haven't driven in the dark yet!  Just a few miles at dusk.

Looking for a car for SWMBO and a 2007 Fabia caught our eye.  It was parked next to a new Fabia and my first look was to see how much the front had changed when the face lift came.  Noted the wider front grill that makes the "face" look a little less "puckered" and then, as a result of reading this thread, turned my attention to the lights.

Superficially they look the same but then realised that the 2007 only had a single light unit.  The new one had a separate dip and full beam - same as on my Roomie.

That is a long pre-amble to a question!  When you fit the Osram Nightbreakers, do they go in the main beam, the dipped beam or both?

I have the same model as you, as posted earlier, the main beams are simple enough to do but access to the dips (Which really need changing) is a nightmare. Changing both is the best answer if you can achieve it. If you do please tell me how.

I put X treme vision (h7's) in my o8 Roomster which i found to be a hole lot better. That works both high and low beam i think.         B)

Not an awful lot TBH. I managed it DIY. Order up a set of the rubber headlight rear covers (about £5 for the set) a bit of jiggery, pokery with the wiring, some trim tape to affix the ballasts and job's a good 'un.

Took me about an hour to do both

Give me a shout if you want a hand fitting some :)

Still confused what to get !

Clive,

These 'look' to be identical to the ones I've installed.  I went for 4300k as this appears to be as close to OEM light colour, i.e. not too blue/purple!!

I coupled them up with a set of these so that the sidelights are virtually the same colour as the headlights.

I also have the part numbers for the Rubber Headlight covers too

Thanks Barry, will sort next week.    ps what is part number for headlight covers.

Top of the Roomster forum there is a sticky thread entitled useful part numbers. They're in there

Hi Barry back again. Lights ordered. Just a question, why do we need rubber headlight covers ?   :wonder:

You'll need to make a small hole (50p sized) in the existing ones to run the wires out to the ballasts on the HID's.

Replacements for when you want to sell on.

Not essential if you're not precious. Lol

They keep moisture from entering the back of the light unit in the engine bay.

Oh ok.  Ment to say why do we need new ones. Thanks.  B)

So the HID'S arrive, thanks Mr sorry Mrs post person. I open them up, everything is here, except the zip ties. Most people say they can do it in an hour, so i have an afternoon, should be no problem then. Open the bonnet, do the near side as this is easier to get to, take rubber cover off, cut hole in it to put wire's through, doing great. Instructions say connect RED and BLACK wires from HID loom  to original plug, mine are, BLUE and BLACK ?  OK, next thing i look at, metal clip that holds bulb in, i take it off original plug, Thing is new loom to HID's has big grommet half way down, and big plug one end, they dont go through metal clip that holds bulb in. Now big decision, do i start cutting bits off to get bulb holder over, or do i cut bulb holder and slot it over wires, once you cut holder it it's of no use. It's all supposed to be plug and play, and the right one for my Roomster. What to do next, well i pack it all away, put all the bits i've taken off the car back on, go in and have a cup of tea.   :wall:     Time for a

Will we use " FORCE ".  light Saber at the ready (hammer).  :ninja:  ps, just as a matter of interest, in one of the articles i found, one guy found some metal HID holders that have a space for the wires to go through, maybe i "can" put a cut in mine ?

I'm 99% sure I didn't cut anything metal. I remember cutting the rubber 'grommit' through which the wires to the bulb are routed, and I cut a hole in the rubber covers at the rear of the lights.

OK then HID'S now in, wouldn't call it an easy job, it helps if you have someone to bounce ideas off on how to get over the problems you get fitting HID's that fit other cars as well (thanks Barrie namely Jonny5ive for your help) .   :whew:   Time for another
