Head unit

Featured Replies

Hi all i have a little cash and was after a head unit its not the amount of cash that would get a columbus nor a overpriced Kenwood (just my opinion)

so what are the other suggestions has anyone found a hidden treasure that they would like to share?

what do you want from the headunit?

if you want it to do the same job as an oem unit (integrate) then the columbus, Kenwood and a couple of cheap chineese copies are your only options.

If integration isnt an issue then the world is your oyster. Whats your budget and what do you want the headunit to do?

It would help if I had put what I was after lol

I have rear parking sensors so that be nice to keep the heads up display but I would look to modding up to a reversing camera at a later date i would like a gps sat navigation, integrated bluetooth for link up to my phone be able to link my ipod as well as usb and sd not to fussed about playing dvds but would like it to play normal cds.

Cash is about £300-350

Some of the Chinese ones integrate ans look great but has anyone been brave enough to fit one ?

Second hand Columbus fits in that bill.

Sort of. There's an Amundsen+ as well.

Thats the one I have in this car and find it brilliant.

I got myself an Ans-510 from "Icebox Auto Ltd" in Liverpool.

Came from China but you get 2 years warranty and plenty of after sales service from Icebox (in the uk).

They're on ebay but are prepared to listen to best offers and will deal outside ebay via paypal.

Cost me £300 and its great - rear parking sensors work great and the unit integrates fully with Skoda Canbus.

Had it fitted by Source Sounds in Sheffield - they said it was one of the best Chinese replica units they'd seen.

Rob's really helpful - they didn't send me an SD card with my unit but he emailed me all the download links for the satnav software and maps and also sent me a new SD card.

I'll take some pictures and send the over tomorrow.

It certainly looks the business. I was just about to buy a Columbus but this could have swayed me. Do you know the measurements of it? I have a Bolero so wondered if it fits straight in or if it needs a new surround. Keep me updated on how you get on. Cheers

Yeah ill keep you updated as ive asked him ROB ro fit it at his shop the total comes to £400 whixh has stumped me slightly as if ibhold out you cam pick a columbus up on ebay for that sort of money but then again I will still have no bluetooth im guessing

Looks great. What the Sat Nav like?

Sat nav is fine - it's running "Igo 8" with full Western Europe maps.

You think £400 worth it Freddy?

DMilleaVRS

If I could've afforded it, I'd have gone for the proper unit...

Mine was £300 for the unit and £70 for fitting. I'm happy but if I'd been able to find the pukka Skoda unit for the same money I'd have bought that instead.

Most Decent Columbus units I've seen go for around £450. Plus you need to buy the other trim surround which will set you back another £60(ish). At least the ans unit slots straight in. So your probably saving about £100.
