Speed Cam / Radar app recommendations?

Featured Replies

As per title, I've tried a few of them, but never found one to be both up-to-date and with a hassle-free operation. So what other people are using and is it worth bothering with one or are they all pretty much "problematic"? I have an android phone but nowdays most apps are cross-platform anyway.

IIRC you won't be able to find anything that will spot a Policeman with a mobile lazer either hand held or in a van if he's not actually using it to measure someone elses speed at the time. Around here they tend to use more mobile speed traps though if you get caught by a permenant GATSO type of speed camera you deserve the concequences IMO. As you say a lot quickly become out of date as the authorities move around and change location- normally as a results of complaints or accidents. Again by me the local authority post where their local safety partnership cameras are going to be on their website (but not when).

Unfortunatly keeping to the speed limits is the only way to guarentee you won't get pulled

I rely on the MK1 Eyeball.

If you're not looking out for speed cameras then you're also not looking out for other things like children running along the pavement etc.

I am not concerned so much about mobile police force. I think they are way more reasonable regarding how fast you should be going than some speed cams that have probably been set with 1980 regulations and road conditions in mind and forgotten there.

Well, it was certainly amusing reading this, but if you can't add something useful to the thread why bother really? You are only raising the OFF-TOPIC-meter...

I use the Pocket GPS World speed camera database on my TomToms. It is updated weekly and includes mobile speed camera locations as reported by its users. Those tally with ones commonly used in my area.

Thanks, I haven't tried that already, will check it out...

I had a problem with the GPSWorld app though:

I have an SGSIII. When the sound is set to come out through the SGS speaker, it's not loud enough to hear with the stereo on. If it's set to come out through BT it also activates the mic and the car is filled with feedback, and any phone-call in progress is cut-off.

Also, if you switch off the audable warning (you might logically think that would be a solution to the above problem) the visual warnings vanish too (WTF??) I can live with the audio warnings switched off, but not the visual ones {I have a windscreen mount}. This visual warnings are quite good as you don't need the app to be running in the foreground for the warning to appear.

Haven't tried it yet (will probably do a test drive soon) but my configuration with these apps is normally "through phone's speaker". I dont want it through BT as it interrupts the music all the time. It doesn't have to be very loud as I don't blast the speakers usually, so It would only be a problem if at max volume it's still too silent. Will let you know...

I use an INFoRAD K2 - all europe and free updates for under £50 a bargain

I used to use a road angel plus. Personally thought it was a great piece of kit. Quite small when fitted and I always found it to be very accurate. Only downside is a monthly subscription charge (I think it was something like £2.99 a month). Not used it for a while though and stopped my subscription, no point in paying a monthly fee when it just sits in my cupboard now. I don't think they make the plus anymore now though and only do more "bulky" units.
