  • ok, on first impressions of "normal" driving , no difference (I wouldn't expect there to be....) then I tried a corner today that I can push on (a "usual" corner) and a speed that would normally induc

  • Congratulations.  I messaged AKS tuning to ask, and they can get H&R ARBs with no issues, so get ordering.  Its worth it!!.     AKS Tuning: 01234 822324

  • I suppose I will be the weight penalty if I join you!!  :wonder:    I am sure I will take a seat with you at Oulton Park, I am going to have a go at photographs at CC, might even fit the roof bars o

Thanks Sy, it will be a copy paste edit affair based on your group buy post, prices are pennies different. Will put a link in here to the GB when up.

Also spoke to Alex about the Poly bushes you have on your car, tempting to have put on same time as the arb's.

Thanks again.

They did make a big improvement.

My aim for the Fabia was to make it handle like a Clio RS200 whilst retaining better road manners, and in all honesty I reckon i had achieved it.  No issues through the corners keeping up with the new clios, and obviously on the straight mine destroyed them lol.

Mines booked in with Alex for the RARB and console bushes, but not until mid October as can't fit it in full then. I hope he doesn't run out of stock with all this promotion!

Yours is an Octavia vRS bud.  These are for the Fabia vRS. Totally different ARBs and vastly differing setup.  The Octavia has a much better setup IMO with much more potential its just setup too soft as stock..

Oops, danger of posting from a phone, can't see the forum section! Sent

vRSy do you know how the VWR springs compare to the Eibach's?

No idea.  I know the VWR ones were good, but comparatively, i couldnt say.  If i was in a position to buy some Id ust go for the H&R springs in the group buy above.

  • 3 weeks later...

AwesomeGTI's website say the VWR springs are 15mm front and 20mm rear, that sound right?

OK, final update for this thread.... I have been to castle combe over the weekend, and pushed the car up to and past its limits, and its a world different to the last time I went around there... MUCH more grip, ESPECIALLY on turn in , the front end feels a world better, and the direction change is awsome (especially shown on the chicanes, you can throw it in with reckless abandon and then swing back the other way, without drama, and wout the horrible wash out understeer it had last time! much higher corning speeds can be acheived (although I'm still limited by fear on the fast corners!)

I have to say the car handles properly now, and I'm quite happy with it!

RARB is one of the best handling mods you can do , and is quite cheap too! it added £60 a year to my insurance, which I can live with considering I'll do at least 3 track days a year....

next on the list? hhhmmm

engine : leave well alone for now, all is going well ;) (checked the oil after combe and it was at max :P ) if I keep the car at 100k , and out of warrenty, maybe a loba turbo, map to suit, and clutch pack for the gearbox....

suspension..: hhmm in order, maybe bilstien shocks (a bit expensive though!) if the standard shocks start to bounce.. all is well with the eibachs at the moment! then maybe polybushes all round, this will probably come before the shocks..., maybe front ARB (by H&R) after my warrenty is done...

right now though , very happy with my little car!

Thanks for a nice informative thread Sharkrider, it certainly inspired me to upgrade. Is your car running any tweaked XDS or steering assist settings?

Given that you have a few ''plans" isn't it about time this car got a project thread? : )

lol.. I have thought about it, but too little done really for a "build" thread ;)

on my last car the XDS came on its lowest setting, and I turned it up to top (which was too aggressive) my new car (CTHE) seemed to drive much better (once I'd ditched the dunlops) than my previous car... hooked up the laptop (well Jason did! lol) and was going to set the XDS to "middle" this time... and found it already was on that setting! seems the best compromise with the diff in my opinion ;)

edit: I like the brakes and steering how they are so havent changed them!

Maybe so far................besides, that's why it's called a build thread, it would be dull if it was all said and done in one post. Besides one of the sites most popular threads is a Citigo that only saw a road on the drive to the Bossfox development centre.

Hi,

Is there a fitting guide for the front and rears anywhere?

I have just ordered a kit :-)

Hi Lee,

For what it's worth I helped fit a rear yesterday and in terms of actualy labour time, it took me and the mechanic 20 minutes. You basically only have four connection points to the car, two large "O" shaped jubilee type clips that mount the bushes to the underneath of the car I suggest hanging these in desired position before fitting the bar, this is the point where the bar will rotate as the suspension compresses, then you have two extra long bolts that go through the shoe that holds your damper and spring, this replaces the existing bolt and is long enough to go through the shoe and through the RARB so is just a swap out, washers either side and tighten. As Sharkrider said at the start of the post, the bar is tight and requires prying into position, I don't know if we were lucky but I operated the pry bar whilst my friend held the bar in position and it popped on first time with not too much grunting or swearing. Also the bushes that hold the bar don't come greased, suggest you do this to avoid squeaking.

All of the above explanations are rendered pretty much unnecessary by Sharkriders first page pictures though as these are self evident. Plus I am NOT a mechanic so if it all sounds like nonsense I take no offence if you disregard.

Taking a mooch under the car whilst it was in the air the front ARB looks to be tucked away in the subframe and would I guess be far more involved. You will not get that fitted for a tenner as I was lucky enough to with the RARB.

TBF, you have a big ass grin in the first pic.

And in the second, it looks like your head might need a rarb, imagine you were taking that corner quicker too.

  • Author

indeed, much flatter, MUCH faster... plus I had a terrified passenger this time round ;)

edit: I never noticed the ehad angle, more G-force then! lol...

ARBs are the future.  Definitey the first mod required.

Ill be adding them to the ST before anything else is done!!
