Felicia Arch Repair

Featured Replies

I have been offered a Felicia Hatch with a long MOT quite cheap and it is in lovely condition except for the rear arches.

I have seen that arch repair panels are available quite cheaply.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to have these repair sections fitted? - I would only need them welding and the weld grinding down - I can do the rest of the finishing myself.

Would just like to know before agreeing to have the car as if this would cost a fortune then it would no longer be a cheap car.

Thanks

Forget about steel welding, it's too complicated and the arches will rust again. Here is an alternative that works even on worst rusted holes.

I was quoted £200 an arch last year. It is cost prohibitive unless you can do the work again. Such a shame and the cause of many a Felicia death.

The only way you can eradicate rust is to remove all traces of it and then weld in fresh, new steel.

New steel welded in is the best solution, anything else that you do will only rust up again.. Around about £200 per arch is about right I'd say as well.

Cheapest and best solution would be to fiberglass arches and rivet it

£200 per arch would usually mean the car is worth less than 1/2 the cost of repairs.

The THREE fellys I have bought dont add up to 4 new wheel arches.

(A grand total of £740)

Agreed. Either buy a solid one and look after it or buy a rough one and i/ live with it, ii/ bodge it (see above), iii/ have it repaired properly.

I will be sanding off the paint to see how bad mine are soon. Wish me luck!!!!

Your gonna do wha?? Sand off the paint to check them? I'd have thought t would be obvious if they were rotten?

There is some visible rust in various places around the car, and some obvious respraying to both the rear quarters. Since the cars previous owner has been shown to be a bit of a prat, I want to make sure he properly primed and under coated.

A magnet shows me there is no filler, but a close inspection also shows me the arches are neither smooth, nor even, so either there is rust there - just painted over, or rust has been removed, and hopefully the metalwork treated and THEN painted over.
