Back in the fold - hopefully

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick hello from me.

I'm hoping to be back in a skoda very soon

I had a fabia mk2 vrs for 18 months a year or so ago and chopped it in for a seat Ibiza fr 2.0tdi as I missed the manual gearbox.

A year down the line I have enjoyed the Ibiza (had a tdi tuning box fitted) however have found out the wife is expecting out second and as such the tiny 270 lt boot on the Ibiza will not do!

Unfortunately I am £1800 in negative equity but with a £750 deposit this is being built into a 3 yr pcp deal on vrs estate with a couple of options.

Hoping to come in just £20 a month more than I'm paying now.

With the 0/ apr deal the fabia does still seem to be one of the best options for a fast, frugal family car unless your spending silly money.

Anyway fingers crossed

Would love some views from vrs estate owners on the practicalities as I will have a baby and a 4 yr old!

Also how are the new engines doing on oil use usage?

Welcome back.

To be totally serious, would you not be better looking at a 'Seat Ibiza ST 1.4 TSI 150ps FR DSG' ?

Cracker to drive.

Great engine and not known to have the problem that some 180 PS engines are having,

& that is including now some of the CTHE engines.

Very good point ....cheaper to buy, better looking, probably handles better, and also should be a better trade in price on your existing SEAT.

Unlikely to miss that extra 30 hp much, unless a major snag crops up I'd stay SEAT,but I have no brand loyalty.

That's a fair shout to be honest.

I prefer the look of the Ibiza to the fabia however there were a number of factors in my decision to come back to skoda.

One is the fact that I need to buy new for the negative to be built into th 0 percent Apr deal. This isn't available on the fr models in the Ibiza range according to the website and the salesman.

Not just this though having had the fabia and Ibiza for over a year each I could never shake the feeling that the new ibiza's have tried to save money in too many places and just do not offer the same standard equipment you get with skoda:

16" wheels instead if 17"

Cheaper seats

No tyre pressure monitoring (extra in Ibiza)

No steering wheel controls (extra in Ibiza)

No USB port (only jack point in Ibiza)

4 speakers instead or 8

No steel pedals

These only seem like small matters but overall although I preferred (and still do) the look if the Ibiza it just felt that but 'cheaper' than the fabia.

I also loved the understated looks of the vrs and this will be more so with the estate.

Fair point on the engines too and I have tried to keep a bit if an eye on the new models and have seen a few issues reported but again I would keep my fingers crossed that I did not get a turkey and look to the warranty if issues arose although I appreciate this would be a long drawn out affair!

I would always rue not going all out for the 180 bhp in the vrs too!!!

The trade in is exactly the same for both dealerships I've been too as they are both seat and skoda

And no 0 percent Apr on fr models

This offer us what is making the deal viable with the negative equity I'm taking in really!

the vRS estate is aswome, I have one ;) in black , eibach springs, rarb (so handles at least as well as the ibiza) black alloys, phone prep and climate.... the looks of the estate are really good :) go for it! plus with the new CTHE issues should have been sorted (6,500 miles since new in mine 250 mill added in oil) here's a pic ;)

Black with black alloys is what I've spec'd

Heated seats

Bluetooth

Rear electric windows

Also considering above spec but red with black alloys as seen a few pics and like the combo.

Had white with black alloys in hatch form before the Ibiza so should go for something different.

Just waiting on an email back today or tomorrow with monthly figures to know whether its a viable option.

Hope so!

If you order eibachs on the new car order to be fitted on arrival you get the three year warrenty with them :)

Ok I didn't know that.

How much are they out of interest as I've had to keep the options to a minimum in order to (hopefully) keep the monthly payments at the level I need them to be.

cant remember, it was all just lumped into the finance for me!

Good to know

I shall enquire if/when I get into the dealership.

No email today though unfortunately so will have to wait till tomorrow

Boo!

Yeah fellow VRS estate owner here!

Came from a MK1 Fab VRS and have never looked back! :-)

The estate looks better than the hatch; IMO of course.

The estate is lighter and faster (by a whole 1mph) ;-p than the Hatch.

And practical with lots of storage for mountain bikes and guitar amps...... No kids for me....... Yet. :-/

All the best with it. You'll love it.

First dealer has come back with a figure too high to move forward with

Boo

Awaiting the second (dealership I'm currently with) so hopefully they will come up trumps,

First was 'only' £25 a month over but I had worked out my maximum budget so have to let my head make the decision and stick to my guns.

Cant see how they can't get to the desired figure of under £300 a month but see what you think with my figures which do not even take into account any discount on list price (I've rounded up some to the nearest £10):

New car

Fabia vrs estate (£18000)

Red (no cost)

Mats (£50)

Heated seats (£170)

Black alloys (£115)

Total cost £18335 (0 percent APR)

Part ex owe £13300 (to settle finance)

Offer £11300 as part ex

(-£2000)

Total finance:

£20335

(-£750 - deposit)

£19585

Based on 42 month PCP with Guaranteed future value of £7000 (guesstimate based on what my figure was for the hatchback after same period)

So outstanding amount:

£19575 - £7000

£12575 / 42 (months)

£299 a month

Now that's all without any discount

What am I missing?

First dealer came back with £330 a month!!!!!

The £18,000 price on the estate is crazy to start with. over £2000 too much crazy.

(surely you would not put £50 mats on finance.)

If you are having a baby you would be far better to go for a more practical car than a vRS. Get yourself a mid spec Octavia. Newer much better built car, lower insurance, far more room for baby seats etc.

  • Author

Very true

No I wouldn't put the mats on finance but just lumped it all in with no discount to show even with this and the negative it should still come in under my maximum budget with no discount.

To be honest even though there's a 0 percent APR deal they still have some movement re discounts considering a new fabia is due within a year or so.

Will have to wait and see what the second comes back with and how they've worked the figures out (any discount)

Valid point but you failed to factor in that I am still a child at heart and even though my boy racer days should be behind me I still enjoy the odd 'blast' (without the kid/s and within the speed limits obviously) now and again!

18k for a Fabia vrs? WTF! Should be 4k cheaper at least surely?

Again totally agree but just using all skoda official price list to show how ridiculous the first dealers monthly figures seem to be.

I can understand to a point the pricing as there's the APR deal whereas previously the 0 percent vat would have taken the list price to around £15000 but then you factor in the 7.9 percent APR on the PCP solutions deal (previously) and it would virtually cancel out the vat deal

Horses for courses I suppose but still can't see how dealers arrive at ridiculous £330 a month

Hay ho!
