When someone buys a fake lead somewhere a kitten dies.

How much did you pay for the lead? Was it an on-line store you got it from? (if you name the store on open forum, and it is a fake, the name will be removed by a moderator)

 

If you post a copy of a scan on here, (remove the VIN number) the Ross-Tech rep on there (Theresas) will soon tell you if you've got a fake or not. If it is a fake, sadly you're stranded. :(

 

Worse than that though if the software was on a disc then it will be a hacked version, so ultimately you do not know WHAT they have done to the software! 

....and more importantly, what that hacked software could do to your car.

 

Whilst there is an offical version of the initials VCDS, the "alternative" is Very Costly Dangerous Software....because of how easily you could kill your car. Just think what a hacked version could do.

I understand what you all say. I think the truth should be in the middle. In my opinion Ross Tech should offer 2 or 3 vcds models and with this some of them of more economicaly price. Because if someone want to buy an interface onle for error code scans its stupid to pay 300 dolars. So they could do  some versions with only DTC scan, others with DTC+coding options, etc. and in this way people wont be bound to look for fake cables.

Anyway, exist as well the case in wich people doesnt know that the interface is fake, because they newbies and aren;t advised by the seller. So the get happy for the low price and....

 

 

I paid about 40 Euros on mine. What should I scan and paste here for fake identification???

There already are several "levels" of VCDS, from Free to Pro.....
