I would honestly own another, all the ppl commenting saying its rubbish etc have never owned one

I've owned a lot of cars and my favourite of all time was the facelift tsport, even more so than my teg engined ek9 civic type r

I have a pic of it at home which i'll upload later

I'd say Corrola too. I was seriously considering one a while ago, but I couldn't find a supercharged one in budget.

I did look into the Corolla after Big Jase sang their praises a short while ago.  There's one in Scarborough that is someone's pride and joy and you can tell he loves the car by the fact I've never seen it dirty.  It looks smart enough and sounds quite good when he goes past, but there's something that puts me off.  I'm not a badge snob at all and have owned cars from all sorts of manufacturers and I tend to buy cars that float my boat in some way.  I guess I'd have to drive one to see if it did in fact win me over.  There was a supercharged one on ebay that had been some sort of insurance/credit repossession which was in a bit of a state but the bidding went mad on it towards the end.  There is definitely a following for them, so they must have some sort of mojo.

Out of the list I'd go for a Celica, preferably a facelift T Sport if his budget goes that far, but like said any of those will be high mileage.

The Corolla is too bland, and the brakes and suspension are poor as standard.

If I can make a suggestion why not go for the 106 Rallye as suggested above, or if he wants a more modern day version go for a Ignis Sport. Neither car

will set the world alight with straight line performance but I will guarantee that he will have a grin from ear to ear after having fun chucking it around.

Never had any problems with the Corolla brakes, if they're maintained they're very effective. Most get neglected tough. The suspension on the PFL is a little boatlike but still very fun to throw around lol.

We need more info as to what your brother wants from a car!!

I would vote for 172 but they are getting to that age where things start to break now and belts can be expensive to change especially if they require new vvt pullys,

If he is coming out of a 206 and doesn't want to go smaller what about a 306 GTi 6 or a rallye,

Not had anything to do with jap stuff so carn't comment there apart froma couple of mates with dc2 integra's but they will be out of his price range

Found some pics! This was around 5 years ago!

First pics the rear isn't lowered for whatever reason

Yeah, my brother had a PFL model as he worked at the factory and it sounded good, but that was about it IMO, brakes didn't fill me with confidence and the car was only a year old so wouldn't have been worn out. Drove several examples at work thats been in and do find nowadays alot of them are coming in with sticking/seized calipers which obviously affect them.

Jase did you use to post on Toyota Owners Club, or Corolla Club at some point? I remember the Corolla where the wheel fell off.

The brakes aint the best

I ran red stuff pads which helped!

Yeah was on there for a bit!

May I suggest something else?  How about one like I've got?  It is the most fun I've ever had in a car (driving that is). I've been using mine as a daily driver for over a year now and it's cheap to run.  It falls into the old tax bracket of £135 per year, insurance is cheap and it is simple to work on. The S2 version has the 1.6 instead of the 1.3 in mine but both can be had for about £1500 at the moment.

Have a look here,

Okay, it's not the last word in refinement or straight line speed but if you want to go round corners....

edit : Here's an S2 with an original engine - quite rare these days.

Here's what VBH has to say on them,

Back in the days when our family did Pugs, we had a 106 GTi that belonged to my sister. I was lucky enough to drive it a couple of times and it was electric. Still, i've been burned by Peugeot too often to have any faith in them or to ever spend another penny on one.

Bit of an update, he went and bought a '51' Celica 190 after a couple of test drives

I fitted Pagid discs/pads and fresh fluid. The brakes were spot on:)

As long as he's happy, then all well & good.

No question for me; it would be the Clio.
