Potentially insane newbie saying Hi

Featured Replies

Greetings all.

After having a strange obsession to own an Easter Bloc car, I've finally taken the plunge. Had been looking at Volga's and similar but this little 1974 Skoda 110LS caught my eye and is now sitting own my drive.

It's a Czech registered 110LS (which means it has a std twin choke carb!!) and I have no idea what the colour is called yet. I welcome any feedback on that.

It hasn't been on the road for over 12 years and isn't yet registered in the UK. Overall though, it seems pretty solid but has been badly resprayed in the past and will require a much better job next time. Looking forward to starting work on it to hopefully not find too much hidden corrosion!! Plan is initially to get it to pass an MOT so that it can be registered here.

Cheers

Matt

wow you are insane, welcome to the asylum

Hey welcome

Welcome.

You'll have to start a project thread on this, so we can keep up on the progress

Hi and welcome aboard.

Love the car, can't wait to see how she looks when finished.

Welcome   :hi: , the van will be round shortly to pick you up,

A good machine polish might bring that paint back depending on what type of paint it is and how far its gone. :)  Might be worth trialling on a bad spot, if you are thinking of possibly respraying anyway.

Project thread is a must on this!

And you are insane!

Until you have it fully restored and running - then you'll be hailed as a 'hero'.

Welcome :hi: , the van will be round shortly to pick you up,

But you will be in good company as Auric (Andy) will be in the back with you! Oh, and welcome from me too, Matt. :) Why did you buy the Skoda rather than a Trabant?

:hi:  Welcome. Fabialous car! :sun:

To be honest I would be tempted to leave the body exactly as it is but drop a V8 in it and make sure the chasis and suspension are sound and then just use it to bait bmw's at traffic lights for sh1ts and giggles. The ultimate street sleeper.

Welcome

Hi Everyone

Many thanks for all of the positive comments.

Managed to get a good hour on it today and fitted a new battery. Feared the worst when the old one was lifted out as the bottom of the battery tray was an inch thick in white solidified old battery crud. Was duly attacked with a screwdriver to break up and the vacuumed out. To my amazement, the well itself is 100% solid. No corrosion whatsoever and is in amazing condition. Well happy with that and new battery duly in place.

Then got it managed to turn over on the key. Just a bad connection on the activator wire on the starter itself. Next I removed and refaced points (until I get a new set), refit and gapped. Supplied fuel and away it went!!  Needs water pump (ordered and on way), a top hose (need to source), service kit and more...................

Sidelights all work as does mainbeam flash but no dipped/main on constant setting. I've also purchased a 100/110 Skoda factory manual so will investigate once I have the correct wiring diagram.

To answer a few questions:

Why did you buy the Skoda rather than a Trabant?

DGW. Never been a massive fan of the Trabant and there's a few knocking about Derby too. Shortlist was a Tatra V8 (in my dreams!), Volga/Gaz or decent old Skoda. 110 has excellent heritage too and I'm well happy with my choice.

Scribbler, I already have a V8 in my life as one of my other classics is a Rover SD1. Already have the fun of surprising quite a few modern vehicles but at great fuel expense. I'm lucky to get 18 mpg, worse when I have a 'bit of fun'!

Planning to keep the Skoda as stock as possible as a true reminder to how things used to be.

No plans to work on it again until the weeked, will update accordingly.

Regards

Matt

Its a runner? WTF I thought it would have field mice living in the engine. Quality good luck with the repairs / improvements. I still think you should stick a V8 in it.

Hello 'Fruit cake'

Stick a rover v6 in it and wrap it in carbon and chrome :) It will accentuate your insanity!

LOVE IT DUDE!!

Get a project thread!

Chris

Sorry, just read your other thread about keeping it with the stock block. What about big fat webbers? The ones that poke up out of the bonnet?? ;:

wahhhhhhhhh A Tatra V8 would have been fekkin EPIC IMO. Get a project thread started, I'll subscribe. And welcome to Briskoda
