CCTV DVR Hardrive failure warning

Featured Replies

We have a 4 channel cctv dvr currently running a couple of cameras and have for 4 years until other night when it decided to start beeping at half two in morning with hard drive failure.

I open lid and ordered another SATA hardrive for it as suspect it was due a new one anyway been on 24/7 for 4 years on record.

Having fitted new drive am still getting warning so removed lid and checkef power to harddrive to which am getting 5.03v on red wire and 11.28v on yellow wire.

Surly it should be closer to 12v, even with connector disconneted it still reads 11.28v.

Disconnect power feed and it reads 12.30v but when connected back to dvr it drops to 11.30.

Any computer ppl tell me if slight drop below 12v would harddrive not work as am trying to work out if transformers faultly or dvr box itself as it doesnt sound like its spinning up altho is making a sort of clicking noise

Has the new drive been formatted correctly?? The click-of-death can often mean an incorrectly formatted drive (I have killed several 2.5" drives by setting the block size too small).

Otherwise, change the psu as a best guess, it should be nearer to 12v, even under load.

It wont let me format it as it doesnt know the drives there either the old one or one.

I might see if i can get a new power transformer or check if old drive will work in my tower at my parents house as that has 2 sata drive spaces

Good idea, it does sound like something other than the HDD has died.
