Oil weap around and under inlet manifold ?

Featured Replies

Hi there , just bought an amazing cheap mk1 54 plate octy vrs , but it has damp patches around inlet mainly around breather pipes ( I'm assuming ) underneath , I'm a skilled hgv mechanic but ,I've had a quick look , do I need to remove the inlet manifold ? and what other breathers do I need to be checking as I've heard they can occasionally block up or deteriorate ? Any help would be a help as I'm a newbie to the vrs , thanks

One or more of the breather pipes will be split, very common.

Can be replaced with the manifold in situ.

Thanks buddy

All the small vacuum pipes around the inlet manifold are prone to splitting, & the Y breather pipe & the S pipe under the manifold are prime suspects for spaying oil mist when they split. Remove the black mounting plate on the manifold (2 allen bolts) for easier access. Dipstick tube is also prone to cracking too.

Cheers for the detailed breakdown and further info buddy , so where do I get the replaced hose from or am I best buying lengths of uprated hose and just buying the Y and S shaped ones , also would you say it would be worth checking all turbo/ intercooler and breathers on the whole engine for deterioration because I think I've seen another pipe here and there sweating a bit , thanks

Just had my car mapped on friday and had the same problem, possibly the pipe in question is visible when the 2 allen bolts and cover  are removed, the pipe is a pig to get to aswell!!.

When r-tech ordered the part which was from TPS they didnt have it in stock, but after them being told the part no had been changed they had one!

Y & S pipes from TPS or main dealer. The S pipe has a crimp clip on the manifold end that you'll have to break to remove, the other end connects to the PCV valve on the large T pipe next to the dipstick tube which is also prone to splitting too so worth checking.

For the rest you can use silicone or decent vacuum piping & cut to length.
