Silver Grille Surround to Black

Featured Replies

I've seen a number of colour coded grilles, what's the best and easiest way to do this ?

finely sand back the grille so the primer can key in, primer then plasikote or colour code with a rattle can then laquer.

As above.

You can paint it with normal paint, wrap it in vinyl or spray with plastidip/plastikote.

Plastidip is the easiest. Simply clean and spray. No need for primer. It's a spray rubber in essence so lasts quite a while so resists chipping rather well

Painting looks good, but doesn't last too long from what I've seen. They tend to chip quite easily.

Vinyl wrapping is quite hard wearing but can be fiddly to fit

Don't suppose you have ever used Plastikote? It looks a similar product but seems to be easier to find in shops and a bit cheaper too. I've seen it in Wilkinsons and B&Q for sub £10.

My mate gave me a tin of it, absolute garbage. Plasti-dip was crap too!

So is the general consensus that either Plastikote or Plastidip are crap and it would be better to wrap it ?

Mines plasti dipped at the moment and it is quite good. The textures quite weird but has lasted well so far

I haven't had an issue with plasti-dip since doing mine and, having done over 700 miles since doing it, no stone chips. :)

Mines done with halfords vinyl spray and so far its pretty decent and holdin up well
