cant decide, I'm torn!

Featured Replies

I have sold my Civic so I need a new car soonish but I cannot decide between an 08 vrs in blue with 63k which is immaculate or a 56 vrs in black with 52k but does have a few stone chips and marks on the outside and a skag on the  leather of the drivers seat..Both are TDIs. There is £1500 difference in the price and I'm not sure the 08 (which is the more expensive) has cruise which the 56 does.

Also the 08 is local to me where as the 56 is in oxford (80miles)

I do like the blue, black would be my 2nd choice.. but I also like 1500quid.

Mum says go for the local one

Any thoughts?

I'd go for the immaculate blue one.

is the 08 a cr or pd? listen to your mom!

Not a big enough gap to choose the rough one. Sounds like the 08 is the better deal.

they are both PD engines I believe

Mum says its better because of the condition and incase something went wrong under warranty then it'll be easy to go back and have them sort it. Since I'm paying with cash there's a chance of wangling abit off so 1500 might come down

interesting so far! Lets have some more opinions!

Deffo go for the Blue one

Cruise is easily retrofitted anyway

2 yrs newer and better condition and only £1500 more...No brainer for me

As said...Mother knows best ;)

ps, Black cars are a pain to keep immaculate

No contest for me,id pick the blue 08 car.

pretty unanimous, nobody put off by a newer car having more miles and costing abit more then? I should've also point out that the 08 has just been serviced and had the cam belt, tensioners and water pump replaced.

More miles doesn't aways signify more wear. When I got my 96k 06 plate vRS I chose it over 57 and 08 plate vRS's. The newer versions had between 12-15k less and were more expensive.

Yet they were in worse condition with less service history.

no your right, which is why I was torn as I was on the verge of giving a refundable deposit of 500quid because the dealer of the 56plate was playing the old "got someone else interested" but I have now told him I wont and if it goes then it goes.

but it certainly seems like I should go for the 08 blue and I'm really leaning towards it now. If I can get the right price then I believe it will be my new car. Its the colour I'd choose, in good nick and mileage doesn't seem to be an issue to most of you guys so shouldn't really be to me either.

Blue just because its the best colour, bar none;)

+1 ^^^^^^^

if you're paying cash the easiest way is to transfer the money into your curent account then use your debit card. You might have to tell your bank you're about to dump a few grand, but you then have positive proof the cash went through should you need it at any stage in the future

63K is nothing for a diesel or a petrol, the fact its had its cambelt & water pump done saves you £400 or so that you may have had to spend on the other car if it hasnt had a belt change.

Without doubt the 08 plate car, cleaner and newer its no contest, 63k miles is really nothing for a diesel either. Probably wont be but would be interesting if it were a CR rather than a PD as it's likely to be a bit more reliable if so.

Well I'm now officially carless so gotta pick up a new car soon. I'm gonna go see the local one again, test drive and see what his best price is.

In the mean time the garage selling the black one have emailed me that they could sort out the condition of the front end for me. handy really as I plan to use this car as abit of leverage hopefully

If I bought the black one I would always wonder about the blue one, the same would not be true the other way round.

As much as i love my white one i would of chosen a blue one if it were available at the time of me purchasing my vRS........

+1.

The Blue 08 VRS all day pal, only 63k with a new cambelt and water put, christ its pretty much new again. If its as mint as you say haggle a bit off for cash then chew his arm off, mums the word she knows best!

I would go for the blue as its had that work done it also my wife keeps giving me grief as i chose a petrol blue l&k not blue VRS as my company car the blue vrs looks mint

Blue 08

Blue 08 and retro fit the cruise.

Blue 08 all day long, miles mean nothing but age on these cars effects paint etc, my 07 is starting to show its age on the sills and in a few other areas so i need to get my finger out.

plus 08 always looks better than 56 on a reg plate!

Blue - I've always wanted that colour (and I had a Black Octy estate, it looks good but not as good as the blue)

Well I bought the blue one and I'm satisfied I got a good deal.

Got the car for £8000 cash. 6 months warranty, 6 months tax and he is going to have every mark I pointed out touched up. I was a little disappointed at first because after I went over the exterior thoroughly I found some marks and chips, not many and not serious but "immaculate" I didn't think it was. The worst was a chip in the spoiler but should be easy for them to touch up. Mechanically it has been serviced regularly including the waterpump and cambelt. Test drive was interesting, this will be my first diesel. Also turns out it does have cruise which is a bonus! Rear parking sensors too. He also reckons that the Aux port under the arm rest was an option too, this correct or was it standard? and tow bar too which might come in handy

So I'm happy and looking forward to getting it home. Relieved actually as the dealer was hard work.. When I asked for a test drive he asked me if I was going to buy the car once he let me??
