Columbus & Sound System - missing functionality?

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a 4-month-old Superb Estate 170 4x4 Elegance with the Sound System upgrade.  There are a few little issues which it is going back to the dealer for, primarily with the vehicle coding, and I wanted to check the functionality that should be in place.

  1. Nav commands and audio information don't show up in Maxidot
  2. Forward and back arrows on the steering wheel don't do anything
  3. There is no front/rear fader control on the Columbus display (it shows left/right balance fine)
  4. There should be a surround sound option in the TONE menu on Columbus (not sure about this?)

I think 1 is simply because the car doesn't know it has a Columbus installed so should be easy for the dealer to fix. This may also fix no. 2 as well, and might it fix 3 and 4?  Indeed is there anything else that should magically appear on Columbus when it knows it is connected to a Sound System car?

As you infer, coding would appear to sort it out. You should notice an audio upgrade as well because it's probably not even using the amp at the moment.

John, I did indeed wonder about this! Although I doubt anything would be coming out of the speakers if it's not using the amp - but it may not be driving the amp correctly.  So am I correct that all of items 1 to 4 should be present on my car?

No doubt someone with a tad more specific knowledge will be along shortly but IIRC the Columbus will still work with it's own amp unless it's told otherwise.

I don't know about the surround sound option but that may only show when playing dvd's?

Is the firmware up to date?

1 possibly a coding issue

2 forward & back arrows should change radio stations / CDs I say CDs as mine has the 6 CD changer in the boot as well as the SD card

3 press TONE touch BALANCE-FADER then you will see the screen for balance-fader it will be obvious then

4 press TONE then press the down arrow to the bottom to SURROUND you the have 3 options.

hope this helps

Thanks fofos, it's as I suspected.  I don't have 1, 2, 3 or 4 available even though I should!

john999boy, thanks.  I'll check the firmware.  I'm not sure how the Columbus would be able to drive the speakers itself without using the amp from the Sound System package, as surely the speakers can't be wired to both the amp and to the amp outputs from Columbus simultaneously?

That's what you'd logically think but don't forget, there isn't a different model of Columbus for cars that have or don't have an amp etc.

In the VW's there is a different boot screen logo depending upon coding but I don't know if it's the same with Skodas.
