Alternator Pulley

Featured Replies

Looking for advice, i had a noise coming from the alternator belt a few weeks ago now it has continued to develop into a massive ticking noise in low revs on idol, i had it examined from a garage and said it was my alternator pulley at fault. However they said i must change the whole alternator as the pulley cannot just be replaced..... I have done a little research into this and i believe the info is incorrect. Can anyone advise me if i can get just the pulley replaced and where from??

Also i was told that the tensioning pulley would be better off replaced at the same time.

you can get the pulley seperate from the altenator

what year car? Maybe I can give you numbers oem. The 100% roll of the alternator also called backstop - you can buy separately. I also recommend the replacement tensioner.

price up a pulley vs a full alternator before buying as the pulley alone costs around the £40 mark .... not sure how much a complete alternator is but it also comes with a new pulley

The year of the car is 2006,   I have got a price of 70.32 for the alternator pulley & Tensioner which seems reasonable. Cost of the cheapest alternator is double that i can find.

Sorry to ask, but do you have a recording or something of the ticking noise?

It's just I have a ticking noise which gets worse under load, but im not 100% on what it is?

Hi sorry i dont have a recording of it, mine does not get worse under load (currently) hard to describe but it sounds like a nail tapping on a glass table rapidly on idle then goes after you hit just over 1200rpm. it was coming from the alternator region 100% positive of that.

tensor

car with air conditioning - the company INA 534 0164 10 (oem 038 903 315 AD, AG, AH, AJ, T)

without air conditioning - the company INA 534 0132 30 (oem 038 903 315 AE, F)

roll will probably be:

company INA 535 00 12 10 or 55472 RUVILLE

When the pulley goes it tends to kill the tensioner, often it is the tensioner making the noise.

You can get the pulley from TPS, ECP or GSF. You can even get them from Ford (same engine used in the galaxy). Same sources for the tensioner.

You can fit it yourself but you need a special tool to get the pulley off. The tensioner is a 10 minute job. I would also change the aux belt at the same time.

So i picked up all the parts today from GSF for £83. Decided to get the Pulley, Aux Belt & Tensioner and get the whole lot changed. Now gonna get it booked in for tomorrow to get it done with a bit of luck i shall have a fully functioning VRS...  :smirk:

Thanks for all the advice guys!!

apart from the straightforward replacement  there are two different designs around which I think are both superior to the standard offering --but the companies concerned don't seem keen to push them
