Engine misfiring

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Was driving my Dads Skoda today, the engine has been running a bit lumpy but i didnt really put much pass on it, until it got about ten times worse. It's like only a couple of pistons are firing.

I have vcds-lite and i ran a diagnostics scan, here are the results:

Any suggestions or has anyone had similar issues?

Thanks

Cheers.

I read somewhere that the camshaft position sensor would not be sending a signal as i did the scan with the engine switched off. The code errors suggest the lambda sensor, and the injectors. Hopefully i can get access to check the injectors, but how, or can a lambda sensor be tested?

Electrical fault on injectors, short to ground ??

If so it could be the fuel pump relay.

Cheers.

I've scanned VAG cars dozens of times without the engine running & never had no signal from cam sensor come up. Can't remember which measuring block but you can check the lambda function in VCDS.

Think about it in a more logical way, the cam sensor is obviously working otherwise you would have other errors on there.... Ok the key word here is intermittent, 9 times out of 10 that means its an electrical problem rather than the sensors all being stuffed all at once, what do all of those codes or the systems they relate to have in common? They all share the same earth point on the engine loom. First thing I would check is the condition and security of all the battery connections and earthing straps, also pay particular attention to the fusebox on top of the battery these are known for splitting or melting.

on those engines there is an earth ring terminal that bolts to one of the lifting eyes on the cylinder head, if I recall it is the earth point for the throttle body, intake temp sensor, mass airflow meter, cam sensor and something else too which escapes my mind at this time of night.. All those fault codes are related to those aforementioned items...

Great advice,  thanks. I will be changing the spark plugs tomorrow, and will have a look at the cylinder head lifting eye earth point. Cheers
