Buying a Mk1 vRS, some questions for phase-one modifications.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So I've agreed to buy a low mileage vRS, Mk1, 53 plate, 60k on the clock!

I'm incredibly excited about this, having spent about a year lurking on the For Sale section of Briskoda, waiting for the right car to come up...

The seller is a well known tuner, so I've come up with the following shopping list of items. We worked out a price on the car with all this work done and I'll be picking it up in a few weeks.

Here's the work that will be done by the time I collect the car and pay the balance:

Tidy Up:

Bodywork repairs (a few stone chips and dents)
Full Detail

New door cable

Grill Blacked

Service:

Cam Belt & Pump

New Oil Filter

New Sparks

Air Filter

Fuel Filter

Fun Stuff:

Stage 1 Remap

So to start with there are a couple of things I want to do that I'm not 100% how to go about. I'd like to fit a Cupra splitter as I feel these really set the front end off nicely. The forum has been a great help here so I think the plan is to source one off eBay and then fit myself, seems easy enough.

Next up is the B-Pillars. I'd like to fit the official skoda ones but I'm not sure how to order them, I live quite a long way from the nearest Skoda dealer. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Next I'd like to fit a _nice_ double-din stereo that fits flush with the centre console, any advice here would be very valuable, ideally I'm looking for something with DAB and Bluetooth.

By this point in time I should have a good feel for the car and it will probably be time for a suspension refresh. I guess I'd be looking for something roughly OEM. Well, the OEM springs will have sagged over the last 10 years and I doubt I'd want to raise the car up so I guess I'd be looking for a 20mm drop. No particular desire for coilovers...

This post is largely me letting some of the excitement out, thanks for listening Briskoda, any advice or direction you can give on the above would be appreciated!

Cheers

-Rob

Thanks rob, appreciate the info.

I'm also looking for some of the newer Skoda badges. Is there someone in briskoda that sells them?

As said vinyl for the door pillars.

Fitting the splitter is easy, tape it in place and triple check that it's where you want it/central then use self tapping screws, really straight forward just use plenty of them as it will scriff things from time to time.

For handling I bought some golf gti eibach springs, they are no good for the back but work well on the front alone, and a whiteline (or similar) rear antI roll bar makes a huge difference.

Pastyboy on here does loads of badges.

Might be worth getting the guy to change your oil pick up pipe along with the other work he is doing.

Thanks for the responses guys, really useful info, I've amassed a bit of a shopping list of other bits that I need:

  • Octavia Mk1 Dog Guard as nice looking as possible
  • Boot tray, as good a fit as possible
  • Rear bumper scratch guard, stops the paint getting scratched by my dog
  • Black wind deflectors, ease and strength of fit the most important
  • Removable tow bar
  • Tow bar mounted bike rack
  • Cupra R front splitter

Any pointers to where I can source these bits would be invaluable!

One of the biggest problems with the 1.8t range is rotting or split vacuum lines in the engine bay. These usually lead to idling/boosting issues. Not their fault mind as their getting on for a bit, 10yr old+ piping won't last forever especially if oil is breaking down the hose.

The OEM PCV is the biggest culprit and can be cured with a simple oil catch can system.

Hope this helps:)

Westfelia do a detachable towbar, not cheap unless you get a second hand one off ebay,

There also not to difficult to fit altho its not recommended to wire straight into back lights altho plenty do, i used a bypass relay just need to run power feed from fuse box at front of car not to hard and comes in useful to put a 12v socket in boot at same time or that was my idea anyway altho never actually got round to doing it.

Thanks for the advice re the vacuum lines, the car has just (this week I think) been smoke tested and one or two lines replaced, hopefully that takes care of that!

With regards to the towbar, Thanks for the advice, so with the relay I'd still end up scotchlocking to the rear lights but ensuring that the extra lights wouldn't take too much of the load / burn our the normal wiring etc? Have I got that the right way around?

The car is mechanically flawless

All hoses that needed replacing have been
