As some of you will know I'm in my second courtesy car, first being a 1.4 13 reg astra which I hated, slow and heavy and boaring. Just got a Nissan pixo 1 litre 3 cylinder and it's amazing! I love it. It only has 68bhp but it's nippy sounds good when reved and is just a hoot to drive. Really makes me smile when I jump in it. It's very basic, winder windows and no rev counter its just fun in a crappy way.

Simple old school fun. James May loves this kind of car and writes about them often.  You can enjoy 100% of the car's performance most of the time and it's not trying to be anything other than a crappy little car. I'm a fan too.

Ideal commuter car imho.

 I had an Aygo for a while, similar sort of thing, just did its job, no fuss.

mikejay, I see where you are coming from. I recently bought a Suzuki Jimny. Simple no nonsense honest motor (and will be good for the winter). i think simple cars are great!

I probably bang on about Swifts for the same reason. It's a cheap but honest car and actually handle very well for stock

I had a VW Up a few weeks ago as a courtesy car, alright after a few days I missed my car but it was the same - just put a smile on my face, love the noise it makes when pushed and it feels fast - didn't go too bad either for a 1litre

I took one for a test drive when looking to change my car.  It was not one of the better City cars IMHO.  The Citigo is much nicer, with all the same plus points but far fewer minus points. 

When I hold it in 2nd it sounds like a jet fighter! Lol its a pain in the bottom though not having central locking
