Amundsen ....Voice recognition

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an Amundsen Sat Nav, phone doofer on my Yeti.

When I first started sorting it out, I am sure a prompt for "voice recognition" came up on the display/ menu for the phone, but I have not seen it since.

Anybody know if this is a feature of the unit or have I been dreaming.

I also admit to not being very good with phones/computers etc.

Thanks in advance

Sorted.....so I wasn't dreaming!

Welcome to the nightmare (not a dream) of "voice recognition!"

These replies don't answer the original question for anyone else following this post. As someone with a Yeti on order that comes with the Amundsen+ unit, I'd be interested to know the answer please!

My SE Plus has an Amundsen +.

My Iphone connects via Bluetooth and voice recognition works very well.

A message comes up on the Stereo screen to say the phone is connected. After a few seconds to allow the phonebook to download voice recognition is available.

All you need to do is pair your phone......and have BT switched on.

Thanks for this. Now I don't know anything about Bluetooth, other than I know that I've got it on my works Nokia 3109 (read most basic) mobile. So how do you use the voice recognition? Do you have to have the phone near to you (in a phone "holster" for example), or are there microphones in the Yeti's cabin that pick up your voice? I was considering getting another Honda Accord before ordering the Yeti and with the one I was looking at, the brochure described having microphones strategically placed throughout the interior in order to pick up commands for HFT and other systems within the car. Is this how the Yeti works? Apologies for my ignorance, as you can probably tell, I'm a bit of Luddite regarding in-car/phone technology.

First of all you need to pair your phone to the Amundsen. The process in covered in the manual. You can view Yeti manuals on line quickly using good old Google. The dealership will set it for you if you ask. Mine did and I used the system straight away.....but I had used voice recognition on my previous car.

Once the phone is paired (and your phone BT is on ...you can leave your phone setting on all the time if you wish) then as soon as the phone and the Amundsen have automatically connected and downloaded your phone list  you can use voice dialling.

Even if you leave your phone in the boot it will still connect.

To make a call press the left hand scroll wheel and a voice will invite you to speak with 'dial Fred Blogs mobile' provided you have a number in your phone directory for Fred Blogs and its flagged as mobile, Amundsen will ask you confirm 'do you want to dial Fred Blogs on Mobile' You speak 'yes' and Amundsen will start to dial the number.

The radio sound will cut out as to start the process and you will hear your caller through the speakers. There is a microphone in the upper centre console near the interior light.

Incoming calls cut the radio with the callers name and it appears in the maxidot. You can choose to answer or ignore using the right scroll wheel.

I hope this helps

If not PM me your number and  I'll talk you through it

Hi, mine worked like this.

Once it has recognised your Bluetooth phone and downloaded your phone book from your phone, you long press the roller button on the left hand side of the steering wheel and state clearly the persons name from the phone book you wish to call and then just follow the spoken commands from the phone doofer....simples!!

PS my son in law sorted mine out for me but finished by saying that if I had consulted the handbook I could have done it myself!

The instructions in the Amundsen hand book don't cover it, but they are covered in the main Yeti handbook.

Hope this helps

Thank you 33q and JB CAT7, this gives me more to look forward to when I eventually get my Yeti at the end of October!
