Uprating Fabia Rear Brakes

Featured Replies

Has anybody put huge discs on the rear of the Fabia Vrs? I am going to do the front, but imho, it will look silly without doing the back. Can it be done using the brakes off another vehicle like the fronts?

I've been told bigger brakes on the back are a no-no. And it will affect handling and braking badly. I've been told uprating the pads and disks is a better idea for braking power.

Probably will look a bit odd though.

Is this right, anyone, or am I being fed evil lies?

You are being fed evil lies.

Damn you. You have personally helped in an attack on my wallet!

Having said that, why do you need them? Other than for them to look good? If that is all it is, don't bother.

When I looked I just assumed that making the front brakes bigger should mean that you would make the backs proportionally bigger to keep the ratio the same, otherwise surely you're changing the braking characteristics of the car as a whole? (ie better braking at the front but camparably worse at the back)

Nope

Ok

Most of the braking is done by the front brake system anyway :)

Would making the backs bigger have any noticable effect at all then? apart from visual?

Shifty if its asthetics your doing it for, dont. It would look silly with them on the rear.

I had a good giggle last night when comparing the TT brake pad surface area to the pad surface on a new pair of rear pads.... I would guesstimate the TT pads have around 500% the surface area of the rear pads. ;)

edit: I run DS2500 pads on my rears, which are bloody wonderful.

That and good stopping power. I guess you have seen one with that done, and it looks poo?

Good stopping power?

Just do the fronts then, the rear's do little in stopping power...

My fronts have more stopping power than i'll ever need, unless I tracked it weekly or exceeded 130mph on a daily basis.

No I have never seen anyone who has upgraded there rear brakes to the same size as the fronts on the Fabia. But imo it would look odd, and beg the question, why?

....... exceeded 130mph on a daily basis.

Thanks for your opinion, I shall take it on board. Has anybody got a technical answer to my question please? Can it be done? will it be of any benefit?

If its more stopping power you really want, may I suggest you try a car with the 312mm upgrade, if you need more, then go for a 323mm upgrade.

I attempted to fit TT rear brakes to the rear of my Fabia but even with the 2wd adapters for the brackets they didnt line up. So I dont think anything off the shelf would fit.

Yes it can be done

Yes it will be of benefit, but, you will get most benefit if you change the bias parameters.

Thanks for that Lummox, you have answered my question.....if it's not dead easy, then i'll just do the front ones.

Cheers guys

ECS tuning do a 308mm kit for the rear... it aint cheap tho... iirc around 400 smackers... and it wont help braking performance at all.

oh yeah.. it uses the std rear caliper too, so it doesnt give any extra pad surface area...

Cheers Col, I think i'll keep the cash and the standard brakes then.......just getting car ready for the national meet at anglesey......the faster you can stop...the faster you can go....

Just get some of the fake brake discs from Halfords for the rears - nice and cheap ;)

True but the larger disc gives greater effect.

:hilarius: - You could paint them too
