When was 7 speed DSG introduced

Featured Replies

Hello All

When was the 7 speed DSG introduced to the skoda octavia 2 ?

Would the 7 speed DSG be on the face lifted 2009 model from around April 2009 ?

Mines only got a 6 speed DSG ( June 11 )

mmmm, thanks

Do you know when the 7 speed DSG was introduced ?

I thought the 7 speed (dry) gearbox was around before they moved over to the 6 speed (wet) gearbox.

I could be wrong on all of that though...

Was it only the Vrs that got the 6 speed then Manny.

How does one tell if a car is a 7 speed DSG box ?

6 Speed DSG is for engines up to 350Nm, 7 Speed DSG is for engines up to 250Nm.

6 Speed DSG is for engines up to 350Nm, 7 Speed DSG is for engines up to 250Nm.

This was my understanding, 7 speed can not take the higher torque engines.

So would an April 2009 facelifted octavia with the 1.8 tsi engine have the 6 or 7 speed dsg ?

Simple rule of thumb: the 2.0 engines get the sturdier "wet" 6-speed DSG. This means the 2.0 TDI and the RS.

Everything under two liters gets the dry 7 speed. This means 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 TSI and 1.6 TDI.

There are also conventional slushboxes in earlier model years I think. Let's leave those out of the discussion. :)

The 1.8Tsi has the 7 speed DSG.

The 2.0T, 2.0TDI and 1.9TDI all have the 6 speed wet clutch DSG (regardless of vRS or not).

Other Octavias with the 7 speed DSG are the 1.6TDI, 1.2Tsi and 1.4Tsi models.

Thanks Perc and Booke23 !!

Ok, so the 1.8 tsi I speak of has the 7 speed DSG.

When roughly was 7 speed DSGs introduced - are they around for years or were they only introduced around 2009 ?

Just trying to figure out if the car I'm thinking of would have a totally new 7 speed DSG or was DSG around for years before this.

The 7 speed DSG was first introduced by VAG in 2008 (maybe not in Skoda's though).

The 6 Speed DSG was first introduced in 2003.

I think it's fair to say the 7 Speed dry clutch 'box has not got as good a reputation for reliability as the 6 speed wet clutch box......especially when mated to the 1.8TSI. The 7 speed has also been subject to numerous recalls all around the world, but not in Europe.

Thanks again

So the 7 speed DSG is unreliable

And

To make it worse from my point of view......, the 7 speed DSG with the 1.8 tsi engine is even more unreliable ?

The 7 speed does not have as good a reputation for reliability.

I don't know if I'd describe it as unreliable. A lot of people don't have any problems with them. But anecdotal evidence from this forum would suggest the 1.8Tsi and 7 speed box are more prone to problems.......they should have put the 6 speed on the 1.8Tsi.

If I was considering buying a used 1.8TSI DSG, I'd want it to have a good warranty!

Thanks again, ****e so the 1.8 tsi and DSG is not great.

Any owners on here of the 1.8 TSI with 7 speed dsg  ?
Any comments on reliability ?

This definitely gets rid of my project of upping power&torque on my 1.6CRD DSG.

I'll keep it as it is.
