Seat swap ?

Featured Replies

Anyone got any idea if there are any audi or VW seats that are more or less a plug and play swap into the MKII Octavia ?

:)

Audi A3 (8P) / Golf Mk5 or Mk2 Seat Leon front seats should be straight swap just avoid anything that is electric to keep things simple but the rears will be all different

Also depends on the age of your car, and the donor for the seats. Around MY08 the airbag connector changed, for the front seat side airbags.

But in terms of physical fitment, there's a fair bit of choice from the shared platform, plus A6 seats have been shown to work as above.

Check your car hasn't had the official airbag problem fix. You may find the airbag connectors have been cut off and wires soldered/crimped which will make swapping seats a bit more tricky.

Good point, it can still be done but like you say - a bit more involved than just plug and play.

More like mutter and curse.

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated :)

car is a 59 plate Vrs, so I'll have to get under the seat and have a look ;)

59-plate will have the later connectors, which should help or completely solve the issue with the airbag warning light coming on, due to the cable over stretching.

Just depends what you're thinking of fitting now really, as to the level of work required.

Well, I've seen a pair of audi TT S-line front seats that are currently fitted into an A3 (8P) so, in theory, I'm guessing they should bolt in easily enough, but the electric connector blocks may need changing on the audi seats??

Should be bolt-in yes, especially if they've been in an 8P.

What year is yours?

It's a 2009 on a 59 plate - facelift Vrs

It is possible Mike - I've done it on my Mk6 seats. Ross (Tech1e) undertook the work for me. Just not quite as you're thinking with directly swapping the seat connectors.

The wiring is effectively the same, it's doing the same job, it just goes to different terminals on the newer plugs. So I took the decision to have the connections hard-wired in.

I'm planning to fit some A6 front seats into my Octavia in the near future (provided they are delivered in the condition I've been promised) and would be grateful for any tips you can offer!

My intended seats look to be very similar to bf1's; black leather out of a 2005 A6 C6, except they have electric height/back/lumbar and slide. The motors should be easy enough to wire in, but I am interested to hear any experiences with the rest of the wiring, for the airbag and occupancy sensor. I get the impression that the connectors will not fit the car - I don't suppose anyone has any images or notes showing the corresponding cable colours between the Octavia loom and the A6 seat you could share please?

Blimey, this one has come back to life!

Can't help directly with the A6 aspect I'm afraid, but I should have some connector fitment photos. However, as mentioned - my MY05 Octy had different connector plugs than your MY10 car will.

I did re-built Audi A6 4F S-line style seats to Octavia preFL.

Mechanically no trouble, only one more pin/pivot is on Audi seats, must be cut off or one more hole in the floor must be drill. Thats all about fitting.

Electrical side: Seat heating is working fine, I used original control unit from my old seats. All connectors are different. Airbag is working fine too, no problem. If there is no control unit for electrical motors, you need only the power line to original seat connector (10pins black).

Seats should arrive next week, so I will get some images/pin diagrams together then and start figuring out what connects to what!

It seems some of the VW/Audi lot buy the correct connectors from the dealers and solder those on to the seat cables - for airbag, occupancy etc. I'm inclined to do the same, provided the right connectors for the Octavia are available for a reasonable sum, as it will make the seats easy to swap back should I want to in future and leaves the car loom standard.

While I think about it - are there any particular precautions to follow when soldering on the airbag end? I assume they will tolerate a bit of heat in the cables, and I will of course have the battery disconnected. If I'm able to get the connectors then all soldering will be done outside the car anyhow.

When is battery disconnected, is work with airbags safety enought;)
